THE REVIEW

"A Snow Capped Romance" is the second work of the Alaskan quartet after the not-so-brilliant "Bitterness the Star", still under Roadrunner.
It's important to clarify right away that 36 Crazyfists have changed, as they have abandoned the nu-metal of their beginnings to focus (perhaps due to fashion or maybe because they realized they're better at it) on that emo-metal core hybrid that has been becoming popular everywhere in the last two years, even here in our little Italy.
Honestly, I don't really care if the change in style is a sign of a desire for success because this record is truly well-made. Thanks to the mixing work of the legendary Andy Sneap (for those who don't know, the producer of Nevermore), the sounds that come out of this small, circular piece of plastic are captivating, emotional, and infuriating like few others.
Brock Lindow's voice is as captivating as ever, and his particular style is engaging at every turn, with the rest of the band accompanying him on this journey through EMOtions and sufferings.
If I have to find musical tangents, I would pinpoint them in the universe of Poison the Well (from "Tear from the Red" onwards), Shai Hulud (R.I.P...sigh), and in the screamo of Underoath, Silverstein, and the like... but the 36 Crazyfists have a distinct soul, mainly centered, as I already mentioned, in the unique voice of the singer.
Moreover, from several sources, I've heard that live they are spectacular and don't lose an ounce of their energy... I’m eagerly awaiting their arrival on Italian soil, my impatience second only to seeing Deftones and Dredg.
