Return time for 3 Doors Down as well. Three years after their self-titled album, the pop/rock band from Mississippi returns with "Time Of My Life". The recipe remains the same, with good rock mixed with radio ballads, relying mainly on the stage presence and good writing skills of the leader Brad Arnold. The group is accompanied on drums by former Puddle Of Mudd member Greg Upchurch, called upon to ensure the band's survival, which, at least commercially, now enjoys greater visibility compared to the drummer's former band.
As mentioned, the writing method has become habitual, a bit predictable but still enjoyable as it always manages to deliver that handful of well-crafted songs enough to release an album that is more than acceptable. With "Time Of My Life", the opening track that gives the album its name, and the rocking "Round And Round", the album showcases its rock side, always measured and well-seasoned with catchy and melodic, sometimes sappy, motives like in the single "When You're Young". As mentioned, an album capable of standing on its own, thanks to a pop/rock approach without particular pretensions.
Good tracks like "Race For The Sun" and the excellent "Everytime You Go", probably the album's key track, a classic Rock Charts hit, rightfully enters as one of the band's hit tracks, albeit somewhat similar to "It's Not My Time", another flagship from the previous album. To be brief and concise, no one should expect something new or innovative from 3 Doors Down, which confirms that they intend to do their homework, but knowing how to do it well. Not the rock album of the year, but in times when too many unsuccessfully attempt to climb to success, sometimes it’s better to hold on tight to certain dear and old habits, and the American band is aware of this.
Curiosity: the album was released in Italy over a month later compared to the rest of the world, and only in our country, initially it seems that the digital download version was not published. Commercial choices that confirm the lack of feeling between us and the American group. We are creatures of habit too, but only when the mediocre and biased routine has the sound of mashed and faded radio rock made in Italy.
