Dave Huismans, Dutch from Den Haag and residing in Berlin, is one of the most brilliant minds in electronics in recent years. After dabbling in various fronts, producing music under different pseudonyms (Dogdaze, A Made Up Sound), Dave decided to dedicate himself completely to the trend of the moment, dubstep, assuming the guise of what, so far, has been his most successful incarnation, the 2562 project. A year after "Aerial", his 2008 debut that, while impressive, did not stand out for originality and innovation, Huismans retreat to the studio once more and releases "Unbalance", a work that, from the very first listen, reveals a significant maturation in sound and arrangements.

The second album by 2562, also entirely instrumental, continues the journey into dark and yet unexplored universes, contributing to the definition of an increasingly "deep" dubstep, where echoes and reverberations intersect with complex rhythms, clearly techno-derived. In the 63 minutes of "Unbalance", it is difficult to encounter weak moments and, at times, it feels like dealing with something never heard before, a futuristic and biomechanical record that seems to come from the farthest future (from... 2562, to be exact). It is equally challenging to choose representative tracks, precisely because of how the album is conceived: a long journey through outer space, where every moment is intimately connected.

Undoubtedly, there are tracks that stand out particularly (the sinuous vocal intertwining of "Lost", the title-track, "Superflight", with its dub intro suddenly pouring into a techno made of broken beats and muffled sounds...), just as it is possible to identify a structure within the work, with a more danceable first part slowly giving way to darker and more disturbing sounds; however, the advice is to listen to "Unbalance" in one go, possibly with headphones that isolate from the surrounding world and help immerse in its modern and evocative atmospheres.

Aside from a slight drop in the second part and an underlying complexity that could make the listening experience challenging, the second release signed 2562 hits the mark: Dave Huismans gives good music fans a work that perfectly interprets contemporaneity and looks towards an unknown future, which thanks to "Unbalance", does not seem so distant.
