Very nice... Excuse me, does anyone know whose piece often returns in the film, the one that starts with a little guitar in the style of Django Reinhardt, and then with some percussion and a trumpet, etc etc?
One of Allen's worst films, attempting to mimic (complete with a tranq) the late Humphrey Bogart. A sort of revisitation of American comedies from the Forties (and "Dick Tracy" has nothing to do with it). Everything is borrowed, everything is thrown together somehow, with a final solution that would even make a child laugh. It may be a tribute to a Hollywood that no longer exists, but certainly, as a tribute, it brings a bit of sadness.
You're really an IDIOT, Poletti. 1) First of all, it's clear you haven't read my review otherwise you would understand the reference to Tracy (which the same Allen interviewed admitted). 2) This is certainly not the film where Bogarde is dug up (that's Play It Again, Sam). YOU DON'T KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT ALLEN AND YOU'VE NEVER SEEN A DAMN THING. THAT'S FOR SURE. 3) The TRIBUTE to Hollywood isn't there. Allen is light years away from that system, he self-produces his films and DreamWorks is only for distribution. 4) You've really pissed me off, I can't stand you, damn you're too arrogant.
Congratulations uxo, truly congratulations. Congratulations for completely misunderstanding my previous post. But completely, entirely. Let's start from point two: I have seen Woody Allen's films (not all of them, obviously), and this is one of those I've seen. Maybe it's you who hasn't seen any films outside of Allen's. How do I know this? By reading points one and three, where you demonstrate extreme ignorance regarding everything that is cinema. For starters, I don't know who Bogarde is (did he make some films too?), maybe you meant Bogart. That’s not a minor mistake, considering Bogart was one of the greatest actors to ever exist and is still a memorable icon of cinema (just to mention, I don’t know, "Casablanca"), but maybe you don’t even know that the raincoat worn by Allen in this film is the same one worn by Bogart in "Casablanca." So what do we make of that? Third point: Allen’s film is a tribute to the Hollywood of the past. What the hell does it matter that he produces his own films? What I mean is that by watching this film, you can see how Allen wanted to pay homage to the comedic films of the forties, those with the banter between Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, for example. Don’t tell me that just because someone self-produces their films, they can’t pay homage to the great classics of the past? Your ignorance, obviously: did you notice any of this? I’d say no. Fourth point: I’m arrogant. I can let that one slide. It’s everything you said before that is lacking. Reading the comments properly won’t hurt.
Among Woody Allen's latest films, along with Match Point, this is the one I liked the most. I believe the Duke Ellington piece is "Sophisticated Lady."
a POLETTI: it's possible that you are right on more than one point. I didn't even notice the mistake with Bogart's name. As you know, the news about the raincoat? Where did you read that? I would also like the source of the tribute to Hollywood (for me, your interpretation is one way, but who knows). I admit I might have exaggerated, probably because it's you. You know how it is, right? A DANTE CRUCIANI: exactly, he said it perfectly, occult supersovereign! Well done, damn!
Bogarde exists and was a great actor. Films with good screenplays but inconsistent thematic value. Or rather, the metafilmic discourse persists, but it reaffirms what has already been reaffirmed. Nonetheless, enjoyable.
no, no: "sophisticated lady is the song" of the end credits... I think Dante was referring to the background song during the heist scenes in trance... that is a rearrangement of "in a persian market," a piece from the '20s by the pianist Albert W. Ketlbey.
