ALEX GOPHER-DEMON WUZ V2 2002. This CD is black. Black on both sides. Black like the night of which it is a glossy sound expression. Black is the cover. Black is the highway portrayed on it. The sound, on the other hand, is often luminous. Luminous like the headlights of cars speeding through the dark. Luminous like the neon signs glittering in the background. WUZ is the new work of Alex Gopher and Demon. Alex Gopher distances himself from those sunny and blatantly funkadelic aspects that occasionally exploded in his previous work “You, My Baby and I.” Or rather, he filters them through a terribly contemporary house sensitivity. Also because you can hear a lot of funk. A funk that plays in your head in such a fluid way... There's nothing you can do. Alex Gopher has his sound, which with WUZ becomes even more defined and loaded with images thanks to the collaboration with Demon. Fatboy Slim has shown us how the rhythmic build-up before the start of his big breaks drove sweaty crowds delirious. Gopher and Demon teach us to wait for the beat with silence that gradually fills up. They play with volumes, transporting the listener in and out of their sounds. Use Me, Intimacy, or The Dark Side are clear evidence of this. The creative impulse that led Gopher to gracefully and elegantly manipulate Billie Holiday's voice in "The Child" seems to find free expression with WUZ. And so velvety grooves on round and fast rhythms are given with great ease. WUZ makes you travel with every possible sonic comfort on the path designed for us. This is quality house. Rain. Along a dimly lit street, neon signs glitter in the night atop some buildings: HONDA-WUZ-PENTAX-PHILIPS. Below, car headlights flash by in overexposure. Trails of color in the dark. Beautiful cover...
