this album is one of the least successful for me but still very enjoyable... the ultimate "progression" and psychedelia the Voivod reached with NothingFace and certainly not with this album, which is more "accessible" compared to many of their earlier works, even though you can feel the influence of their youthful idols like Pink Floyd, Van der Graaf Generation and a bit of Canadian progressive (rush???)... Ps: the Voivod are Canadian... still a good review
It doesn’t seem to me that in the past the Voivod were influenced by heavy metal like Judas Priest. There are psychedelic influences (even if reduced) in "Dimension Hatross," which is an already complex album, far removed from the 80s metal stereotypes. In short, the Voivod have always been a step ahead of everyone!
I hope you’ll forgive the sour comment. Rece is so-so.. it’s a bit confusing.. especially the third paragraph.. I agree with ocram on everything: the masterpiece remains Nothingface. This stands out especially for being a much more accessible album compared to the average productions of the band (even from the more distinctly thrash period), but - at least in my opinion - there are plenty of better albums in their discography. I don’t agree with the rating. They are Canadian.. and I don’t find the references to the sound of Priest etc etc.. sorry.
I welcome any criticism; I'm in a very prolific period when it comes to reviews, I don't know if you've noticed: maybe this one turned out a bit worse than others. Anyway, talking about the music: of course, it’s not the most beautiful album, I reviewed it because I like it, and the two best tracks were already present. As for the British tracks... well, I can hear them, I don't know about you, we might have different ears. In any case, I only mentioned a multitude of influences in one song!
......but how can you say these things about an lp that is simply wonderful? Well done Seifer....if you judge Voivod by their commercial success, you haven't understood anything about them, but in general about the whole metal "landscape"........to those who understand......
Beautiful, exciting, original, and daring just the right amount, this The Outer Limits. I’ll just add one thing: in my personal opinion, "Jack Luminous" is a perfect piece... perfect in its intricate and dreamy length. A delicious 5, as far as I'm concerned.
The review is not very precise, but still good.......the album is perhaps the most underrated record by Voivod......stunning, from start to finish, whose beauty culminates in the wonderful "Jack Luminous".....
