a good dusting off of a classic often overlooked... I really like it a lot, I consider it undoubtedly the best work by Motörhead of the '90s, which I find much more credible here than in the subsequent March or Die, truly poor in my view. I do not agree with the term heavy metal that you mention a couple of times in the review; Lemmy and the gang are children of rock'n'roll. If I had to assign a genre, I would lean towards hard rock (but in the end, it’s rather a sterile regulatory issue).
"Who'd win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God?", the cop replies, "Lemmy", to which Rex, played by Steve Buscemi, imitates a game show buzzer and the cop quickly changes his answer to "... God!". Rex replies saying, "Wrong, dickhead, trick question. Lemmy is God"
With this album, Motörhead tried to broaden their audience a bit, and in fact, sonically it is quite catchy compared to their previous works. Lemmy's bass doesn’t stand out here like in the other albums (bad... very bad!). However, the songs are definitely there, and many of them are still performed live today, and considering Motörhead's practically infinite repertoire, that’s no small feat. Among those from the 90s, it's my favorite along with "Sacrifice" (what a punch that one!), while the following "March Or Die," as Polkatulk88 rightly points out, is really poor apart from a couple of tracks.
@panico: as for Metallica, I agree; in fact, I think you're being generous, because for me, only the first three are great, while for Sabbath (in my opinion), you need to get to at least the sixth, including that one.
If I may say so, Sabbath created their absolute masterpiece with Heaven and Hell, so they did not end after 5 or 6 albums, and even those with Tony Martin are more or less excellent. Metallica, on the other hand, ended with Justice.
Well, I'll tell you, as a teenager, I only know the classic Sabbath lineup with Ozzy; they are my absolute favorite band, and I’m really afraid to listen to anything outside of that quartet, like seeing your girlfriend with someone else! As for Heaven and Hell, I’ve heard great things about it, although (again, this is just hearsay) it might have a very different sound from the classic, more heavy metal. From the '70s up to Sabotage, I personally consider them all 5-star albums, and then Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die try to explore new horizons with results that are sometimes good and sometimes less so. Regarding Metallica, although I'm not a fan, the first three albums are timeless masterpieces that I don’t think would look out of place in any discography. I haven't listened to And Justice for All in years, but I don't remember being that enthusiastic about it.
and justice is the first without cliff. Beautiful compositions, but his absence, alas, is felt; rather, we could say that it is NOT felt, since it seems to have been recorded without bass.
Black Sabbath end with Never Say Die. After that, they’re no longer the Sab, they’re another band. "1916" was the last album by Motörhead that I listened to; after that, I lost track of them. Good record, I agree with the reviewer. And good review.
To say that Sabbath ends with "Never Say Die" is wrong, even though I understand your point of view, which I don't share at all. Polkatulk, I highly recommend the album "Heaven and Hell," you won't regret it. I too had my prejudices before hearing it, like "without Ozzy..." but then I was thrilled, without taking anything away from the albums you mentioned, which are great anyway. Ronnie James Dio brought a fresh breeze, and the whole band benefited from it. "Justice," on the other hand, is an evolution of the first three Metallica albums, thrash softened but not commercialized like that of the Black Album; rather, it's more technical.
“Going To Brazil” is a perfect Heavy N’ Roll track, then the joking time ends (what a joke, though!)... I 100% AGREE!!! You described it better than I could have. "1916" is a fantastic album. The most solid Hard'n'Heavy band, the quintessential rustproof group, here has proven they can do more than that. Great album.
This is another beautiful album: not quite at the level of the trio "Overkill," "Bomber," and "Ace Of Spades," but immediately right behind them in terms of overall quality!
