But don’t touch their concert in Turin in ’92, with Soundgarden and Faith No More: what an unforgettable night!!! And I have to admit it once: “Paradise City” completely changed my tastes back then; before I was listening to music like M. Jackson or Madonna. So I allow myself a nostalgic vote for the Guns.
You’re making some big mistakes on many things, Cliff Burton. 1) You cite completely inaccurate news; 2) The success of Guns N' Roses is at least 70% due to Axl Rose, whether you like it or not; 3) Albums are released not because record companies want to, you fool, but because there are contracts that were signed beforehand: why do you think this compilation is coming out now (and not two or three years ago)? You guessed it. And 4) For the same reason, I would bet that if they are successful, and they will be, they'll bring Axl Rose back into the fold, helping him, because he is genuinely toxic. Then you mentioned the three most obvious songs by Guns N' Roses (two of which were written by Axl), while if this group of idiots is to go down in history, it should be for the songs from Appetite for Destruction. In short, the first part of your review was somewhat decent, but then you really slipped up.
There’s no doubt that the success of Guns comes from Axl Rose: teenage girls still have to hang a poster of a handsome guy in their room, right? For the news, I invite you to click online a bit and/or read the latest interviews with former members. If this album is being released, it’s only because Chinese Democracy didn’t come out at the time. Otherwise, by now the Guns would have continued to stay alive (even with a different lineup) and a The Best would have been released, but when and how the Guns wanted it. This is another merit of Mr. Rose.
he had never been able to tolerate them, Dickinson was right when in '88, after the Monsters of Rock with Megadeth, he accused Rose of being the head of a money-making machine.
The success of Guns truly comes from the producers; I remember well that they were already famous even before releasing their first album... The "street metal" genre was completely invented, who knows by whom (they're definitely just five rich kids with made-up biographies to make them seem like "real tough guys"). One of the most annoying voices in rock and the authors of the most dreadful ballad in rock history: Sweet Child O' Mine. There exists the mold of Jimi Hendrix's penis, as well as many artists from the '70s, made by the famous groupie Cynthia Plaster Caster.
Street metal exists...very well identified too...it's not something they made up for Guns'n'Roses...and anyway, thanks to Jigoro for reminding me of Megadeth...I'm off to dive back into Rust In Peace.
The group with Scott is called Velvet Revolver, and the single SLITHER is already available for download, definitely more STP (or anyway grunge) than GNR. Luckily. Moreover, there are also new studio tracks like Set Me Free and the cover of Money by Pink Floyd, from two different soundtracks (Hulk, Italian Job). The album will be called Contraband and is set to be released in the first week of June. They promise to be better than Audioslave because Weiland is always Weiland, and he doesn’t need flashy lamps and cool tank tops to show who he is.
I'm not a die-hard fan of Guns, but Appetite for Destruction is awesome, damn it!!! The greatest hits is a blatant cash grab, and Axl Rose is a fat, rasta, drugged-up mess.
In my ranking of hatred, I've been in the top 10 for years. Muse, Oasis, Stereophonics, Calling, Groff, Subsonica, Starsailor, Vines, Limp Bizkit and the others.
Cliff, I can understand that this album is really useless... but so is your review! Where has objectivity gone? And when it comes to songs for teenage girls... well, you named the right ones (which don't belong to Appetite for Destruction!). Moreover, no matter how controversial Axl's character is (okay, self-centered, cocky... whatever you want), along with the other Gunners, he marked a fundamental milestone in the history of Rock. Even Axl didn't agree with the release of this album... maybe he realizes that the Guns are no longer the old, unforgettable, fantastic rock legends... that's why he can't finish Chinese Democracy! Go listen to Appetite For Destruction again and then take back what you said. Axl has been the driving force of the Guns, with his contradictions and his talent! Giusy
Objectively, in fact, the gun's have never been "unforgettable," as you say. My review was not written to criticize, positively or negatively, this album. Its uselessness is evident from the start. I wrote this review to express an opinion on this pseudo-metal band and the foolishness of its leader. And please don’t start talking to me about the history of rock.
Cliff, you talk a lot (in this and other topics) about how I shouldn't come to you to discuss the history of metal or similar things as if you know everything. I've been listening to rock and metal more or less since you were born, and I believe I can say that Guns should be judged as musicians and separately as men. The musicians were great. Truly great. But the men turned out to be very small. Unfortunately. That said, I agree with the uselessness of the album. There was no need for it.
I don't think I have detonating knowledge, but I've only expressed opinions. If then you say who I am as a metalhead... in 10 years you've wasted time.
what I have to hear… the truth is that the Guns were really great. It had been years since I’d seen a band with that energy. someone said that Sweet Child is the most horrible ballad in rock… I may not be a great expert in rock, but you really don’t understand a damn thing!!!!
Energy? But do you know what a group that unleashes TRUE energy is? Even the Backstreet Boys or the Five unleashed energy, or those bimbos Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. And what the hell does that have to do with anything? To drive the girls crazy, they posed shirtless, acted all mushy, did ballads. And if Guns N' Roses were a real rock band, then my son, Linkin Park are one of the greatest metal bands in history, and Robbie Williams is the future of rock. And anyway, have the guts to sign your name because I'm not going to eat you.
Initially, I want to clarify that I'm someone who listens to Guns. I just wanted to say that someone here must have lost their mind; I get that they may not be to everyone's taste... but to call them a commercial act? Absolutely not. Guns helped me get into other bands, both in metal and hard rock... to say that "Sweet Child O' Mine" is a shitty ballad is for the deaf and mute. Dickinson even gave an official interview where he speaks highly of both Axl and Slash... idiots.
X cliffburton... even the Merdallica or Nutallica (oops, I meant Metallica) unleash TRUE music????.. come on, after "The Black Album," the MERDALLICA are on the same level as BRITNEY SPEARS, CRISTINA AGUILERA, RICKY MARTIN, NYSTINK, etc.... X puntiniCAZpuntini... if Appetite is a 3.1... then Nevermind is a 0.1!!! (and this is coming from someone who loves the "grunge" era)
If you hate Guns N' Roses, you can't help but hate other bands like Mötley Crüe or Aerosmith... they also posed shirtless to please the girls... and then you feel like judging songs like "Home Sweet Home"... also a big ballad!!!! I would really like to know which band you think has the guts!! P.S. don't mention Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Hendrix, Sabbath, Queen, etc... too obvious and sacred!
The Guns are amazing!!!! You don’t understand a damn thing about music.... I started to love the Guns right from the GREATEST HITS!!!!! THEN I discovered the other albums and I respected them a lot!!! But if you hate Axl so much "the legendary Axl", why are you so interested in him???? All singers or musical groups, whatever they may be, show off with their chests bare or do worse!!!! Remember Jim Morrison and then don’t talk about Axl!!!! Axl you’re great, the people who criticize you are just envious!!!!!!! Read something about metal!!!! Anyway, a band with balls is Marduk ciaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I am a fan of Guns n' Roses, and as such I DETEST the Greatest Hits that was recently released. I remind detractors that the Guns album "Appetite for Destruction" is considered by music critics to be the most important hard rock album of all time. Tracks like Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child o' Mine (whose solo is regarded as one of the most beautiful in rock history) are absolutely worthy of the fame they have achieved. Unfortunately, Axl Rose is an idiot, and as such he has reduced himself to this. I am a true fan, and as such I CRITICIZE Rose harshly for what he is (not) doing and for how he has tarnished the name Guns n' Roses.
who is that idiot who wrote "the merit of Guns is 70% Axl Rose"????!!!! where do you put Slash! the only true legend of Guns is him... the guitarist par excellence, guitarist with a capital G.... you don't know shit about Guns anyway
you don’t know shit about guns... the success is 70% thanks to Slash, not Axl... and you, asshole, who writes all this... you don’t know anything about rock n' roll... so shut up
Cliff, I'm not mad at you, but at those who made you write this review (if it can even be called a review, since it's more like your "anti-GnR manifesto") which, by the way, has become a collection of comments from those who hate the entire band or just Axl. Reviews should be written objectively and not unjustifiably polemical.
no one makes me write reviews. I write what I think and this is a site where, in the right way and limits, you can do it with pleasure. It’s not a review, but an anti-GNR manifesto? Fine. I hate this band and I don’t think their success is deserved because they haven't done anything special. Axl is a huge jerk, Slash is just another guitarist. STOP! it’s a fucking glam band! and with this I conclude because frankly it’s not a time when I can waste time discussing topics repeated 12559 times... see you!
I think Axl is a great singer who has taken the Guns high; I admire him, he's really strong... maybe if we all had lived his childhood, we would be much worse than him. You describe him as someone who has ruined everything, but instead, he's a great person who has made his mark in the history of rock... great Axl...
First of all, yours, if it's a review, is awful. It's not true that reviews are objective, but personal opinions shouldn't be exposed like that! You've been too honest. Anyway, Axl may be an idiot, I admit that, but no one can dare to demand anything from someone who has had a hellish past. It must be understood that his total idiocy and his crazy, disjointed lifestyle are an outlet, a way to say "fuck you." Not being able to take it out on anyone in particular, he trashes everything, including his band, so he doesn't wrong anyone. That said, critics consider Guns N' Roses to be the most important hard rock band. None of us can contest their importance and question the judgments of those who make music for a living; that would be quite presumptuous. Personally, they may or may not be to my taste, but the importance of Guns must be acknowledged. And Axl, if he really is a fool in every sense, at least he's a good-looking fool, and no one can take that from him.
Oh, sure! So Eminem is great too, right? He had a tough childhood, so by expressing all his anger in his "songs," he's an artist who can't be criticized. No one should dare! Each of us goes through our lives with ups and downs, with joys and pains, and I should understand Axl Rose because of his childhood??? Who knows how many people have lived through worse things than the childhood of this jerk, and I should feel the need to respect him just because he's cute?? Critics consider them among the best in rock? So what? Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, the Backstreet Boys, Blue, and all those other fucking pop stars are adored by millions of fans and make billions, even though they don't make music! And what the hell does that have to do with it?? Michael Jackson is defined as great, but he's a damn pedophile because he has Peter Pan syndrome. And I should understand him? You and the other admirers keep praising this band and their cuteness. I will continue to express my opinions. I'm literally fed up with responding to comments where the tide of bullshit is never-ending. I swear on that Pig of God that I will no longer respond to any comment about this bullshit of a truthful review made with my opinions! It leads nowhere, and the one wasting time is me... greetings to everyone and goodbye forever.
Dear Cliff, the album Appetite for Destruction has been considered by critics (and not just by the public) the most important hard rock album of all time. Your constant comparison with Spears or things like that has nothing to do with it, so please refrain. That said, you can obviously write whatever you want and think however you like about anyone. However, be careful with the judgments you make: as long as you say FOR ME this band sucks, that's fine. The moment you claim, in an absolute sense, that THIS BAND SUCKS, you automatically find yourself in the wrong. One last thing: your use of swear words and insults indicates, besides a certain coarseness, a remarkable immaturity that leads you to be so foul-mouthed just to feel "tough." You're making a fool of yourself, let me tell you. Bye p.s. Album reviews deal with examining lyrics, music, artists' technique, artists' intent, their poetics. You focused only on your moods and adverse feelings that led you to trash the band for things that have nothing to do with the music. You essentially engaged in gossip.
horrible cd, the Guns are a shitty band, only Appetite for Destruction is a good hard rock cd, for the rest insipid commercial operations, I fully agree with the reviewer’s assessment even though this album doesn’t deserve any consideration.
In my opinion, the review is also fair... but you can't say they suck! Guns N' Roses have been (and I hope that with this fucking Chinese Democracy, if it ever comes out, they'll return to it) the greatest band of that era. I also like Metallica, but you all have to admit that if it weren't for them, we would have had to endure Duran Duran and Van Halen for much longer. And I also wanted to tell those who said they posed shirtless to fuck off because the photos where they're naked are STRAIGHT UP! LEGENDARY GUNNERS!
Guns N' Roses are one of my favorite bands, and this is a great collection of their most beautiful songs... and what the hell does it matter if it's commercial??? So every greatest hits album from every band is just commercial?!?! What nonsense!!! But what left me speechless is that someone wrote that Sweet Child O' Mine is the ugliest ballad in history... get a grip!! It's one of the most important ones!! And the reviewer?? How do they even manage to say that?? Unmerited success??? If no one had seen their faces, their success would have been double, because there weren't these people judging them as idiots just because some fucking girls hang their posters in their rooms... but the band is all about the music, and Welcome to the Jungle is the most important rock song of the last 20 years... okay, opinion given...
I, on the other hand, wonder what the real reason is for making Greatest Hits. Is it to give a gift to fans who don’t own any albums, is it for those nostalgic for the singles, or are they made just to sell more?
Whether you like guns or not, they are a piece of rock history; thank them if rock didn't die or at least partially recovered at the end of the '80s, to you.
Cliff Burton, it's better if you go back to selling pizza on the street because you understand nothing about music... but who put you in charge of writing this review???... the only good thing you've written is your nickname, but given your lack of skills as a reviewer, it's even an insult to Cliff Burton... do yourself a favor.
how many assholes are on this useless site, what the hell did I come here for, anyway frustrated losers keep listening sadly to your grunge or black metal cliques that can barely even pick up a guitar....bow down to Slash, you bunch of assholes!
I think this reviewer doesn't know what it means to be really pissed off when he thinks about what I missed out on by being born in '89. Buddy Cliff, do you realize that you've stoned the greatest hard rock band in history (okay, AC DC also rocked hard)? It's true, it's a commercial bullshit wanted by that idiot Rose, but at least 5 or 6 songs are among the most beautiful ever written in the last 20 years.
I've never read so much bullshit in a minute... halfway through the page I flipped to the end, I had to say it... maybe those who really listened to them when they were playing (and not some kid from '86...) can talk. So shut up. You wrote a review already filled with prejudices that have nothing to do with it, as if I were to write a review on Take That... not liking them from the start, I certainly won't write a coherent review. I won't waste any more time. Bye.
But are there kids from '86 who speak like rock poets? Apparently, yes, this forum does. But what kind of review is this? I understand that if the author signs off like that, they must be frustrated about how their favorite band has turned out... better to disappear for 13 years or do different things than to produce abortions like Load & co.... He talks about GUNS... what a shame...
dear cliffburton86...you don't understand anything about music..you don't know what GUNS N' ROSES means otherwise you would be afraid of their greatness and skill..
I hate Greatest Hits... they’re crap... they don’t capture the evolution of the bands across the various albums at all, that's why I give it a solid 1!
Some songs by the Guns are quite nice, but they were laughable for how much they were a bunch of pretty boys for screaming girls. I have always found them irritating and fake. I understand that it has been more than two decades now since there have been musicians who aren't; but seeing "rockers" posing in that way pisses me off even more. Musicians crafted in a lab with a scalpel for an audience (at least for those back then) that had never really heard of Rock in the serious sense of the term except by hearsay.
"Fans of the band won't find the best tracks, but a deliberately commercial selection that fully reflects their sonic career": aren’t you feeling well... november rain, welcome to the jungle, sweet child o'mine, paradise city, don't cry, + knockin on heaven's door, aren’t these some of the best tracks of the band? I don't know, what would they be then?
