Dirk Serries is undoubtedly a great artist: his significance within electronic and ambient music is enormous. Despite his continuous dedication and commitment to releasing new records under his name (previously also with the project Fear Falls Burning), I believe fans remember with fondness his experience as Vidna Obmana. The 90s period of Vidna Obmana was rich in masterpiece albums, including those from the trilogy (Passage In Beauty, Shadowing In Sorrow, and Ending Mirage), a true manifesto of quiet and introspective ambient music that expanded and went beyond Brian Eno's theories. But Dirk Serries has always known how to broaden his sonic horizons as he demonstrated with the collaboration with Asmus Tietchens in Motives For Recycling, a dark and nocturnal album that showed another aspect of his music characterized by experimentation and processed and recycled sounds. It is precisely in this vein that this Tracers moves, a reissue by Zoharum that presents us an album originally released in 2003 with David Lee Myers of Arcane Device and released at the time by Klanggalerie. The atmospheres and settings are extremely minimal and dark: this music evokes gray winter landscapes immersed in perpetual fog. It could be Dirk Serries' Belgium but also some landscape of the soul that manages to emerge externally thanks to the sensitivity of these artists. An album for solitary souls and mind travelers.
