Hook Me Up is the second album by the duo The Veronicas. The twins Jessica and Lisa Origliasso decided to make a stylistic change compared to the previous album, moving from pop-rock to electro-pop with synths reminiscent of the '80s.
The album kicks off with a very energetic song: "Untouched", a beautiful fusion of guitars and keyboards, which became the first single released first in Australia, later in America, and much later in Europe.
The 2nd track of the album has the eponymous title "Hook Me Up", another engaging song that features prominent synths, creating a very catchy tune, and it automatically became a hit single both in Australia and America.
The album contains romantic songs celebrating love, the most catchy "This Love" or the tear-jerker "In Another Life", but also songs dedicated to a love that has ended, like "This Is How It Feels", a calmer one "I Can't Stay Away", or "I Don't Wanna Wait", or "Revenge Is Sweeter (Than You Ever Were)" with a nice guitar intro.
There are also some great dance tracks like "Take Me On The Floor", which also touches on Jessica's bisexuality, or "Popular", a song critiquing Hollywood stars (a song that connects to the B-Side aptly named "Hollywood").
The only songs that retain the style of the previous album are "All I Have" and "Goodbye To You", songs where the guitars dominate the scene.
In my opinion, this is a good album because after the release of "Hook Me Up" other artists of the genre have followed this style that The Veronicas started already 2 years ago, which seems to be the winning key to selling many records.
