Second studio effort for the young British band from the beautiful Brighton. The young and promising The Kooks led by the group’s leader and voice, Luke Pritchard, try to continue their excellent ascent in the indie-rock scene with this new album titled "Konk", which takes its curious name from the recording studio where it was made. There are high expectations after the very successful first record, "Inside in - Inside out", but perhaps it’s fair to say that too much anticipation has played a bad trick on many admirers of this band as it seems there is nothing frighteningly new under the Brighton sun...
The album opens with "See the sun", a classic Kooks piece, an excellent choice as the opening track, alternating intimate moments with pure frenzy that highlight the golden voice of young Luke. The second track is the already famous "Always where I need to be", a single hit that aims to strongly propose itself as the new "Naive", an energetic track and perhaps, I would venture to say, the only gem of this record.
Jumping here and there within the album, between the ballad "Mr.Maker", the rockish, velvety rhythm of "Do you Wanna" and the insipid, almost boring "Gap", we arrive at the second musical moment of note on the album: "Love it all" which calmly proposes itself as a potential second single, a track that with its relaxing rhythm will be ready to accompany you on sunny summer afternoons.
The third and final part of the album doesn’t present any particular surprises: it flows pleasantly without astonishing or leaving indelible marks, it seems like listening to something already heard and proposed by The Kooks. A track of note is the semi-acoustic ballad that closes the whole "Tick of time," which curiously sees the entire band come together with instruments and voice in a well-executed mix that positively closes an album not to be thrown away as it is pleasant especially for those who want to approach indie music starting from the most comfortable of easy-listening, but certainly not to be framed and venerated in one’s room!

02 Always Where I Need to Be (02:41)
She don't know who she is
Oh,I can take her anywhere
Do whatever comes naturally to you
You know she just don't care
You know she just don't care
'Cause I'm always where
I need to be
And I always thought
I would end up with you eventually
Do do do dododo do do do dododo
Do do do dododo do do do dododo
Now I see her again
I have to be a hummingbird
Whisper words in her ear
Oh, You know I just don't care
You know she just don't care
'Cause I'm always where
I need to be
And I always thought
I would end up with you eventually
Do do do dododo do do do dododo
Do do do dododo do do do dododo
Oooh wohwohwoh oh I'm a man on the scene
I'm a man and I can be so obscene
'Cause I always think I know how to be
But I always thought I would end up with you eventually
Do do do dododo, do do do dododo, Do do do dododo, do do do dododo
04 Do You Wanna (04:06)
An i was hopin

So fed up of
The same old man

You were so fed up of the same old broken man

Shine, shine, shine on Yes Wont you shine, shine on (Sha la la la) Shine, shine, shine on Yes Wont you shine, shine on Safety pins holding up the things That make you mine About your hair, you neednt care You look beautiful all the time.
12 Tick of Time (04:25)
It's far too early in the morning,
To be trying to call you
And far too early in the daytime,
To be thinking about that
But I, But I, But I am
What did I do in a past life,
Oh to deserve this?
Yeah the way I make myself
He's far too innocent to be a part of
Such a cruel world
And it is, and it is, and it is
So I'll go, yes I'll go
So I'll take that train and ride
Hoping I could write her a rhyme,
That might stop the tick of time
Get off this situation and feel fine
Get off this situation and feel fine
What did I do to deserve her love?
I have to ask myself,
When I am such a bad man
But only to her, only to her, only to her
So I'll go, yes I'll go
So I'll take that train and ride
So I'll go, yes I'll go
So I'll take that train and ride
Wishing, hoping I could write her a rhyme,
That might stop the tick of time
Get off this situation and feel fine
Get off this situation and feel fine
