After this semi-rant, obviously realizing that I do this with every review, but it's a way to recommend to you without wasting too much time and a way for me to remember the beautiful things that came this year and the beautiful things that might come (Beach House? Alex G? Protomartyr? Chromatics?).
Today we talk about Tamaryn, a New Zealand girl, supported by a flesh-and-blood band, who has released two great albums like The Waves and Tender New Signs, with dream and shoegaze sounds, reminiscent of bands like My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Mazzy Star, a wide and well-blended range.
This Cranekiss, feeds off the '80s, dabbling on all fronts, from Industrial, Darkwave, Dream Pop, Shoegaze, Trip hop, a sequence of genres that revolve around the ethereal and enchanting voice of our Tamaryn. In this record, the electronic component emerges strongly, with synthesizers between Dead Can Dance and New Order, sharing the bass with the Cure. Often the electronic drums replace the real ones, pushing the listener into even darker recesses, even though the voice brings the atmospheres above the clouds, launching us forcefully from the abyss to the stars.
A mix of '80s and '90s that will not disappoint anyone, the only flaw apart from the heterogeneity of the work in some points, is the presumption of wanting to be commercial and in the piece: Hands All Over Me, you can feel this, but it's totally negligible; in short, Tamaryn is between the Gorgeous and Beyond, time will outline the right placement, in the meantime listen to it and let me know what you think.
