SxM

The album in question was released in 1994, immediately achieving success in the underground scene of Italian hip hop at the time.

The group consists of three gentlemen already known to those interested in the genre: Neffa, Deda, and Dj Gruff.

The first two came from the Bolognese experience of Isola Posse All Stars, the third from the Milanese scene of Radical Stuff, as well as a solo album that managed to gather the main exponents of our scene, with particular attention to those revolving around Bologna.

The album is revolutionary: in a period when the unstoppable decline of the posse phenomenon was beginning, groups that ranged from rap to ragamuffin, focusing less on technique and more on message, strictly political and militant, Sangue Misto managed to combine social denunciation, stripping it, however, of demonstration slogans, and an impeccable style from a technical point of view, full of a slang that would become the dictionary of Italian rap.

SxM primarily travels on dark atmospheres, of constant discomfort, describing real situations that our three protagonists live day by day. From missing money, to the tense atmosphere that was breathed in those years in Italy and particularly in a city like Bologna, from the passion for marijuana (omnipresent), to that for hip hop itself.

Gruff composes perfect bases, seemingly simple and bare, but actually very elaborate and aimed at creating a precise atmosphere that perfectly merges with the rhymes of Deda and Neffa (as well as Gruff himself).

From start to finish, the album flows in one breath, with no moments of boredom or dead points. SxM simultaneously marks the end of an era and the beginning of another, blending the spirits of these together. What ends is the posse period, what begins is the era of disengaged rap, which increasingly distances itself from politics.

An album to have and to know by heart. The history of rap and probably also of Italian music.

No one in Italy has subsequently managed to reproduce anything comparable to SXM.

The productions are exquisitely refined and polished to a manic level, despite the seemingly "raw" aspect.

"Amidst butts, boobs, and big cars, people show-off but do not express. Neffa, Deda, and DJ Gruff, however, had plenty to say."

"‘La porra’, almost seven minutes of ode to hemp, is where Sangue Misto give their best, mixing influences with surprising musical depth."

"If since 1994, the year the album came out, this work still manages to spark discussions among enthusiasts and non-fans alike, there must be a reason."

"Overall, SxM is one of the ultimate cornerstones of Italian hip hop, a precious gem of the genre, which has influenced practically anyone who ventured into rap in the last 20 years."
