After four years of waiting, here is the new REM album. The album is not bad, but compared to some of the group's past works, it's much more easy listening, while still maintaining the rocking atmospheres known in the discography of the three Americans. Overall, a decent effort that finds its best performances in songs like the dark title track Accelerate, the beautiful Until The Day Is Done, the lead single Supernatural Superserious, and the opener Living Well Is The Best Revenge. The rest is adequate but perhaps could have been better... The production is very good, and the sound always remains quite clean and clear.
It's not a demanding album, nor does it want to be. Rather, REM deserves applause because they are one of the few bands that, amidst the mountains of trash presented to us today by MTV and music in general, still manage to produce works as good as this one.

This is Rock'N'Roll!
Michael Stipe’s singing is expressive, lively, energetic, and the lyrics reflect on the current and future American and global situation.

'Accelerate' perfectly captures the soul of that animal called R.E.M.
R.E.M. take a step back to take two forward, recovering the spirit typical of their youthful years.

The fourteenth R.E.M. seal is by far the most guitar-driven of the last ten years.
This 'Accelerate' has a sharp sound that the three R.E.M. orphans...had forgotten.

It’s enough to leave your ears buzzing for days. Incredible.
Relax, Peter, danger averted. R.E.M. are back. To stay.

Thankfully, there’s Accelerate, their least inconclusive and ultimately the most beautiful album: finally the guitars roar, no longer like the plastic of the 80s, but finally in a thunderous and sparkling way, like never before.
Get two good headphones, start Supernatural Superserious and feel the sound come in from both sides, echo in your chest, and mess up your soul.
