Hello everyone.

I'm back on DeBaser after a long time and with a new nickname. Due to many commitments and since I had lost my old password, I could no longer log in to this beautiful site. However, I'm not here to talk about myself but about this very strange demo produced by a Russian black metal band.

I got to know the band in question when I went to Russia last year to visit some relatives. Some friends who are into extreme metal, in fact, told me about Mrakobesie and their "Zver". At first glance, I wasn't thrilled listening to the eight songs present here, but over time, I learned to love this strange form of black metal.

Why do I write "strange"? Because it's a raw form of black metal and devoid of virtuosity (as it should be), but also because the Mrakobesie are an openly communist band. I know that today, due to Burzum and Graveland, this genre is seen as a breeding ground for neo-Nazis and xenophobic criminals. However, it's worth remembering that the founder of black metal, Euronymous, was a staunch communist. So the Mrakobesie are inspired by ideals of class solidarity, of fighting against capitalism and against fascism.

Musically, I wouldn't underestimate the proposal so easily. Originality, certainly, is not the number one quality of our friends, but screams and genuinely incisive riffs are clearly audible. Also, the use of typically Slavic melodies and the introduction of a flute suggest that this is a Russian path to "black" metal. It's worth noting, as a bonus track, the version of the historic anthem "Katiyeshua". Fast, powerful, and epic!

A demo that offers great hope for the future of the band.
