THE REVIEW

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Year 2001.
Two men and a moog, that's what Modey Lemon are. Their city has never been famous as a flourishing musical cradle, yet that's where Paul Quattrone (drums + harmonica) and Phil Boyd (guitar + vocals + moog) come from. Who ever thought that just two people could make so much noise?

Modey Lemon bursts into your stereo, into your house, into your ears, into your head. They don’t ask for permission, they don’t give you time to prepare, they go straight to the point. The opening track, "Big Bang", is exactly what you can expect from the title: a sudden explosion. If this had been the soundtrack to the origin of the universe, I'm sure the world would be a better place.
"It's Hard (The Squeal)" is pure space rock. "Coffin Talk" is the fairy tale I would tell children to scare them. "Caligula" is a historical ride in a splatter key. This album has a bit of everything: Stooges, MC5, Reverend Horton Heat, a touch of blues, B-movie horror films. A journey supported by Quattrone's frenetic rhythms and Boyd's woven stories. Never boring, never dull. 46 minutes of pure adrenaline. I quote an English review (www.drownedinsound.com) that says their songs sound "Like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion being fist-fucked by a robot. Fast and Hard". I spare you the translation. Whoever wants to understand will understand.

Shameless plug: I've heard legendary tales about their live shows. Knowing the music they make, it must be one of those experiences that mark you or at least make you shake your butt. Anyway, they're coming to Italy: May 23rd in Rome and May 24th in Bologna. Anyone who misses the chance to see them is a poor bastard. In all friendship.
