A secret concert is nothing more than an event unknown to most, organized in a private home offered by some willing person, where a band performs for a select few who learned about the event through word of mouth on the web.
Marta sui Tubi is a Sicilian group that has been igniting stages all over Italy for the past few years with an original, fresh, and never cliché rock. I've seen them twice already at the Circolo degli artisti, but I can't miss an opportunity like this.
Yesterday we were informed via SMS of the address of the villa where the concert will take place; it's about forty kilometers from my home, so we leave very calmly! Every participant of the evening is required to bring something to eat to share, and I dedicated my afternoon to making some cold pasta. We arrive early, and a very kind guy, after checking the guest list, lets us park in the villa's garden. Finally, we enter and immediately we find ourselves facing Carmelo and Giovanni from Marta who ask us if by any chance we brought some Autan to drink!
Slowly, the beautiful villa fills up with people, everyone eats, and the artists are there with us, chatting and drinking wine. There's a climate of maximum respect, each person arrives with dishes, sets them on the table, and then begins to wander around the garden, without pressuring the artists too much but treating them like friends they haven't seen in a while. Around half past nine, we settle down on the lawn where the instruments have been arranged; to be more comfortable, I go to get the plaid from the car, really a picnic atmosphere!
Finally, the concert begins... What can I say, it was wonderful. Giovanni has a great voice, he can do incredible things, and Carmelo is truly an exceptional guitarist. Stitichezza cronica is improvised by reading articles from Repubblica, and the entire concert is full of jokes and entertaining moments. Marta also performed three new pieces Senza rete, Cromatica, and Amletica, truly treats for us fans.
At the end of the concert, everyone is back together chatting like old friends.
What can I say, a wonderful experience, absolutely worth trying, being able to see a concert of a band you like as if you were at a bonfire on the beach!
