Here I am, I had threatened it and I did it..
The unexpected appreciation from some site users, particularly some with proven expertise and a guaranteed taste in music, for one of his tracks posted among the listens convinced me to write a review of Lucio Corsi's new album, his first "real" album.
I hope not to receive generalized slaps in the face for daring to throw the music written by this twenty-five-year-old with a boyish face onto the homepage for a few days.
A youngster who still today, according to YouTube, is practically unknown, with the number of views of the tracks from his latest album around 0.1% of those of Tommaso Paradiso's latest track...
What a shame, I am sure even Tommaso Paradiso, if he discovered how excessively high his views are compared to those of Corsi, would be surprised and disconcerted.
A little more known is he, however, in trendy newspapers, Rolling Stone in particular, which dubbed him the Italian "next big thing", and this is not a good thing...
The "kid" nevertheless has great talent, as even Francesco Bianconi believes, let's hope that Rolling Stone doesn't bring bad luck and especially nothing happens like with football players.
Lucio Corsi, besides, I'll dare to say it, more or less five/six years ago, I discovered by chance on YouTube, stumbling upon a concert video where he sang in front of an audience as numerous as 0.1% of the audience at The Giornalisti at the Circus Maximus, before Tommaso Paradiso left.
He sang about aliens, spaceships, dinosaurs, bees, and strange things in general.
Today, he still sings about "strange" things, but about waves, friends flying away, big holes, and wind.
All in a style that surprisingly combines, in vocal style, music, and lyrics, De Gregori and David Bowie, De André and Lou Reed, Capossela and Marc Bolan.
In short, glam and great Italian songwriting.
But also romantic psychedelia like Kevin Ayers, and clearly a bit of Syd Barrett.
And then again (after all, he himself has declared to have been a big listener of Genesis), according to one of the most significant comments I've read on YouTube by one of the few (for now, I'm sure) listeners, something else, namely: "A flower??"
In the album, not everything is perfect, at times he exaggerates with the metaphors, at times there's a bit of compositional coldness, but I forgive him.
And anyway (at least) the first two and the last two songs are a blast (I've already posted the last one, and the penultimate one is this one, which reminds me a lot of something by Lou Reed).
And the strikes of distorted guitar combined with almost folk melodic sweetness are a real delight, there's no denying it.
Well done Lucio, keep going, and don't let it go to your head.
