The band Inquisition originates in Colombia but soon moves to the United States, Washington, where most of their production will originate. After the brief customary introduction, let's try to frame the style of this band.
Inquisition plays a decidedly raw Black Metal, not very fast, but undoubtedly rich in atmosphere, their true strength. The album "Magnificent Glorification Of Lucifer" is the perfect testament to their sound, which has evolved with each release. The lineup consists of only two musicians, Dagon and Incubus, in charge of vocals/guitar and drums, respectively. The album is made up of ten tracks, nine if we exclude the outro, which cannot be considered a song. Upon the first listen, I won't deny that you might be disoriented; their sound is very particular, as is Dagon's voice, which seems to be in a trance for the entire duration of the record. However, after a few listens, the album is well assimilated, the songs are quite simple, not to be underestimated for this, I reiterate that the atmosphere created is truly incredible; it feels like being in a cave where some dreadful ritual is taking place—truly extraordinary from this point of view.
The technical level is not miraculous, but this makes the tracks more direct, fully centering the aim to drag the listener into the terrible dark "world" of Inquisition. Another downside of the first listen is that the songs tend to resemble each other, but by delving deeper into the album, each track will become easily recognizable, endowed with its own characteristic moment that will make it easily identifiable. Each song necessarily needs to be analyzed individually, each contains a unique essence. The album opens with the darkest song of the entire work, "Baptized On Black Goat Blood", a very evocative and successful piece, a perfect ritualistic-themed soundtrack, with a truly chilling ending in terms of atmosphere. The second piece, "Crush The Prophet" is the most typically Black Metal, just over two minutes of uncompromising sound fury, the most direct track but also the least distinctive. The third song is very distinctive, "Under The Black Inverted Pentagram", the start makes you believe it's similar to the second track, but absolutely not, the slowdown proves it, an ancestral atmosphere envelops the listener, a vortex that allows no escape, five very intense minutes, with a truly great ending, undoubtedly a high-quality piece.
The fourth track is rather atypical, "Of Blood And Darkness We Are Born", abandoning purely Black roots to delve into a raw but impactful cadenced piece, the result is very good, excellent tempo change about halfway through the song that leads us to the end, giving us another excellent piece. "Dark Mutilation Rites" is the grooviest piece of the album, played on the same piercing riff, very effective, which harkens back to the primordial Thrash/Black of Bathory, Venom, and Celtic Frost. It will be very easy to love this track if you enjoy the sounds of the aforementioned bands. The sixth piece, the title track of the album, "Magnificent Glorification Of Lucifer", is a slow but very engaging song, the least dark of the album, for a moment that cryptic atmosphere that pervades the entire work is abandoned. Moving on to the seventh track, "Impaled By The Crypting Hornes Of Baphomet", dark, powerful, very gloomy indeed, the atmosphere becomes grave, little more than three minutes containing the musical philosophy of the band. The eighth track, "Winds Of Fire", slightly speeds up the tempo, another track that focuses more on the typical Black sonic assault than on atmosphere. Excellent track. The last song, "Eternal Loyalty", is the most wrenching, five suffocating minutes, characterized by more Doom than Black shades, the usual ritualistic atmosphere emerges forcefully, accompanying the listener a little longer on the oppressive journey through the darkest sonic abysses ever. The outro closes the album, allowing the listener to resurface with more than five minutes of absolute silence.
An album that must be listened to in order to truly understand the capabilities of these musicians, capable of creating surreal, dark, and suffocating atmospheres. I challenge anyone to listen to this album with the lights off, immersed in darkness, with a free mind, an infernal journey that will not leave you indifferent. My advice is to get this album absolutely if you love primordial Black sounds, you will not be disappointed. However, I wish to specify that this album is not suitable for everyone, absolutely not, lovers of cleaner and more melodic sounds should stay away.
Give this album a chance to capture you; I would have given it top marks if not for the fact that, I repeat, it is not suitable for everyone.
