According to my theorem, devised during idle moments and supported by empirical evidence, the artists I follow with interest tend to worsen after surpassing a certain threshold. Giorgio Canali, on the other hand, proves to be consistent in both musical and textual quality.

He himself had announced an album with fewer "strong" pieces and more ballads. I find it well-blended, moreover, it is not the first time the musician from Predappio has given us more intimate songs. Just remember "Pesci nell’acqua," "Pompieri 2," "Questa no," "Non dormi," and others. It is certainly less aggressive than "Tutti contro tutti," but the result is still satisfying.

What stands out are the lyrics. Today, often in various fields, there is a call for the old to step aside in favor of the young. Yet, a fifty-one-year-old emerges giving lessons in songwriting. To cite one of the best pieces, we might dare to suggest "Lezioni di Poesia".

After a brisk start followed by the first ballad, one reaches the album’s title track without even noticing, placed in the middle of a well-distributed track list. The rhythms are engaging, transporting the listener through a clear-eyed, often cynical analysis of the current world. All in the style that has characterized Canali for eleven years.

On the official MySpace, the first single offered was "Nuvole senza Messico", a title that pays tribute to Paolo Conte in a somewhat cheeky manner. The track is the most catchy and could easily be played on the radio. The strength is that the easily singable chorus hides, as much as possible, a bitter and despondent text. Chapeau.

Musical realities may create cash cows, but the ability to strike with words and music cannot be taught.

"This work erases everything you thought about Italian music, completely erasing Lucio (Battisti), Gigi d’Alessio, and gives us an album of rare beauty."
