Francesco De Gregori, the prince of singer-songwriters, the prince of Italian music returns to the sales scene with great style and with an album that is nothing short of beautiful, in music and lyrics.
It was 2001 when "Amore Nel Pomeriggio" was released, and now four years later De Gregori publishes this album "Pezzi", like in a puzzle: War, politics, memory, reflection.

A De Gregori never the same, always changing, simple sounds and poetic lyrics.
The tracks are ten, and at the end of the CD, you feel like listening to it all over again.
Francesco has managed to enchant once again and I am sure it is an album that will sell a lot and will be appreciated by everyone. Someone has defined the songs as too Dylanesque, but in my opinion, even though we know De Gregori is a Dylanesque, De Gregori's songs are De Gregori's, and Dylan's are Dylan's.

Here are the tracks:
VAI IN AFRICA CELESTINO!: It's the radio-friendly track that opens the whole album, repetitive phrases, to the rhythm of a train. Genius.
NUMERI DA SCARICARE: A reflective song at a blues rhythm that talks about war, the smell of burning, children; a careful reflection on what happens in the world and watching its horrors as a spectator.
GAMBADILEGNO A PARIGI: A wonderful song that seems like a dream; when I listen, I try to imagine the context, and I must say this merge of music and poetry is the best of the album.
TEMPO REALE: The rock rhythms of this song accompany a very real text that talks about how the world goes, siding with one side or the other only for convenience, materialism, and poverty.
PAROLE A MEMORIA: A nostalgic song, of ifs and buts. The song of regret and not remorse. I can already imagine it sung live...
LA TESTA NEL SECCHIO: It seems like a song written at a precise moment in life when you start doing the sums and subtractions of what you've experienced. A reflection and many questions of what has been done and what was wanted to be done. A great song.
PASSATO REMOTO: It's a poetic song about the regret of a lost relationship. The verses flow gently and end suddenly like a farewell without a goodbye. Great De Gregori.
IL PANORAMA DI BETLEMME: The context of this song is the war in Palestine; it all revolves around a man forced to rebel to defend his human dignity. A man tired of being oppressed. Nice rhythms and a wonderful voice.
LE LACRIME DI NEMO - L'ESPLOSIONE - LA FINE: This wonderful text accompanied by the piano seems almost like a prayer, a desire to be guided by moonlight to walk the roads of this increasingly obstacle-filled life in the world.
IL VESTITO DEL VIOLINISTA: There was no better way to close this album; it is precisely this song that sets the "tone" to listen to it all over again from the beginning. De Gregori's voice and his background choir manage to highlight a rock rhythm of simple chords to talk once again about this contemporary era with the hope of living one day in less troubled times.
As I said before, at this point the desire to restart the CD is strong...

If I can give you a piece of advice, buy this beautiful album that decidedly raises the quality average of Italian music. Now that I've bought it and listened to it several times, it seems obligatory to say: Thank you Francesco for the beautiful songs you give us!
