THE REVIEW

After witnessing what seems to be the definitive return of Wave sounds from across the Channel, the Film School decide to break the "made in USA" silence and join in disguised as baronets in this market space which today seems to offer more positive returns than ever for both artists and producers.

In their second album, the Film School undoubtedly demonstrate their ability to interpret the historical moment and fill it with all its typical nuances, from dark wave with Robert Smith-like anguished vocals, to dreamy shoegaze, and even some technical flashes which here and there interest listeners aspiring to something else.
An interesting album that doesn't resolve but captivates at first listen, an album that deceives time without cheating, because behind every guitar delay hides a current sound, maybe overused but certainly honest.
"On & On" the single that launches the album is powerful and immediately establishes the band's musical roots, the pinnacle is reached with "He's A Deep Deep Lake" a broad, dreamy track that recalls melancholic post-rock moments, and analog sounds and non-overused, appreciable choruses.

In conclusion, the Film School prove to be worthy interpreters of this reflux, without shamelessly copying or settling into a single standard.
This surely allows us to doubt their originality, but at the same time it lets us lose ourselves in what musically has belonged to us for a long time and perhaps never left us, we can still comfortably call it new wave, even if the only new thing is our critical yet ultimately passionate ear for these sounds.

Film School's second album marks a strong return to the new wave scene with its dark wave and shoegaze influences. The band skillfully interprets nostalgic sounds without mere imitation. Standout tracks like "On & On" and "He's A Deep Deep Lake" showcase their dreamy and melancholic style. The album captivates listeners with its honest use of guitar effects and analog textures. Overall, it offers a fresh yet familiar experience for fans of classic and modern alternative rock.

Tracklist Lyrics Videos

01   Intro (01:07)

02   On and On (05:39)

03   Harmed (03:17)

Yesterday I ran the whole day
A record mile from that town
And all the time I looked for something
I lived alone in my heart

Oh man we got harmed
Oh man we got harmed
And this picture that I thought I'd recognize
Oh man we got harmed

Tell myself I have the whole day
Been circling round in the town
And all the ways I hoped to find out
I never thought this'd be how

Oh man we got harmed
Oh man you got harmed
And this picture that I thought I'd recognize
Oh man we got harmed

04   Pitfalls (05:01)

I can barely sigh
Been charging through the snow
Lining up for games
Games to let me know
Stop. Go. Stop. And go.
I could never tell
The compliments in code
Twist and rearranged
The faces always show
Stop. Go. Stop. And let go.
While we hide these highs and lows
I can barely make out what you're trying to show
Stop.
Take a look inside
Now keep it to yourself
Now dig up the remains
So glad that you could help
Stop. And Go. Stop. And let go.
All hands on deck all hands here we go, it's off to the show
Be seen at the show
I don't want to go

05   Breet (04:24)

Someday remind me how
I've come to believe this tale
Four days alone in a house
We've turned once again on ourselves

Well I can't seem to help myself from showing only sides
What you can't seem to figure I know I've tried to hide
All I seem fit to say right now I don't feel justified
One day becomes another day regardless of our fights

And oh we measure heights
Back to back
Your heels to mine
Oh you seem so high
Despite where you stand alone
In your mind
Oh we measure heights
You said you'd die
Before your time
All we ever want is to see something besides
Our own heights
It happens all the time

06   He's a Deep Deep Lake (05:02)

07   Garrison (02:16)

08   11:11 (06:48)

09   Sick of the Shame (06:34)

If we had some money
Could I hide with you?
Fall away like we had money
It's all we'd do

If we had this honey
Could I feel like you?
Run away like we had money
It's all we'd do
It's all we'd do

Beautiful, where'd you go?
