Yngwie J. Malmsteen Odyssey

Dear anonymous, there's no need to get heated. I’ve already told you that I don’t speak out of bias, and I own "Marching Out" on vinyl, bought the same year the album was released. It's not a despicable album, but in the long run, like all Malmsteen's records, it becomes tiresome. You can't always reduce everything to infinite scales played at lightning speed. I haven't felt the need to revisit it in years. Jeff Scott Soto, as a singer, was also quite ridiculous on his own. Hammett, and I emphasize imho, remains a guitarist like many others. Not that Darrel was a genius, but he certainly had a much more personal style and undoubtedly influenced new generations of musicians (more or less metal and more or less valid). Hammett's merits are much more limited. Certainly fast, but aside from that... if I want to look for a fast and pyrotechnic guitarist, albeit not exactly original, I’ll go listen to Brian May, not Kirk Hammett. Before you tell me, I have all the Metallica albums from "Kill 'Em All" to the Black Album included (already pretty weak, as far as I'm concerned, and anyway 'the beginning of the end,' to put it in their words). No, it’s not a mistake. Those that came after don't even deserve to be remembered, not with this name at least.

Talking about Malmsteen is to praise the uselessness. And I say this with full knowledge of the facts since I have (or at least had..) all the albums mentioned by the anonymous above. The one reviewed here is probably the least worst. And when it comes to Malmsteen - to stay in a 'metal' key, so to speak - I continue to prefer J. Petrucci by far. At least the one from before ToT. Hammet a great guitarist? Mmmmm... he hasn't enchanted me. Rather, I would place (I used to place, by now) the poor Dimebag (R.I.P.) above him, and many others like him. Bye.

I'm writing to say
ENOUGH!!!!!!!
How long have I left the flag on this review? It's been a while since I checked Yahoo and my inbox is overflowing! Damn you all...
Aside from that, and keeping in mind that the album is from 1999 (I'm referring to Stardust), I have to say that Zuckina's judgment finds me completely in agreement.

With all due respect, even to say that the great Toni Iommi is the best living guitarist seems to me quite a nonsense.. that said, and regardless, great album for a great band.

how can one disagree... echoes is (perhaps) the most beautiful and representative piece of 'those' PF. A masterpiece. It's true that the rest of the album isn't at that level (oh well..) but that piece is more than enough. One of my favorite Pink Floyd albums. Nice review anyway, full of info I was unaware of.

a fantastic debut album, nothing to say. Definitely among the best hard rock albums of the 80's in absolute terms. It's a shame that it remains the only album by GN'R worthy of being remembered. But songs like Paradise City, Sweet Child o' Mine, Welcome... Rocket Queen, etc. are indisputable. Hard Rock (n'roll) through and through.

I quote and endorse Josi word for word. All I add is that it’s an ugly, boring album, but above all, unnecessary. Clearly the worst of the three.

re-edited (and re-vote): no balls.. whoever doesn’t have this record (said in the Milanese way, meaning.. with affection) is a fool. period.

No more chitchat... whoever doesn't have this album, called "alla milanese," that is... in a friendly way) is a fool. Period.

Well, I would say that 'heavy as a boulder' suits her all too well... no offense - I don't even know this album - but I listened to Lullaby for Liquid Pig and no, I've decided it's not for me. Nice review, though.
