Thank you Tomgil and Defender, very kind and knowledgeable. But admit it, the idea of the cats is absolutely mind-blowing and intriguing: the battle that takes place three-quarters of the way through the book is, in my opinion, less interesting, almost more suitable for a Tolkien-esque fantasy than one composed almost exclusively of images and visions.

Really great review, although perhaps you could have spent a few more words on it. I agree with your judgment, and despite the obvious flaws, I find this work extremely fascinating in its almost unsettling visionary quality. Out of curiosity, how is "I gatti di Ulthar"?

Intriguing yet excessively verbose at times. I'm currently reading "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath": I've never encountered so many synonyms for "unnamable" (a concept repeated in Lovecraft to the point of nausea).
