Trivium The Crusade

Ascendancy is a pleasant album that doesn’t invent anything, but it showcases a technically skilled band capable of entertaining the listener with sections reminiscent of melodic death metal and harder parts closer to thrash/metalcore. The little I heard from the reviewed album gave me chills, as it sounded like a shameless copy of what Metallica was doing 10/15 years ago.

Nice album, a discreet band with an excellent vocalist that moves away from the usual conventions of the genre. I don’t find the SX very close to Dream Theater, but rather more aligned with power (+ evolved and neoclassical) and a certain thrash. In my opinion, their flaw has always been a poor choice of sounds, too "rough" and dry for the guitars, which at times seem out of context compared to the other instruments.

@ Tepes: I respect your view on Meshuggah and I take this opportunity to compliment you on the refinement of the bands you choose to review (I thought I was the only one who knew Coprofago) and also for the courtesy with which you respond to others' ideas, as it seems to me a trend on this site lately to insult anyone who thinks differently.

In my opinion, it's a very beautiful but derivative album, in the sense that they haven’t added much to what Meshuggah expressed with "D.E.I.". I also disagree with your comments regarding Meshuggah's latest releases; "Nothing" is a monolith, an insurmountable wall of sound, "I" a journey into the abyss, and "Catch 33" the culmination of that journey. The only criticism I feel I can make of "C.33" is that the heavy evolution that usually manifests between Meshuggah’s albums is not so evident in this composition.

Fundamental band.

Great album, definitely more immediate than the previous ones and with good appeal without being trivial. The new Decemberunderground is also very nice. P.S. Davey Havoc screams like a bastard.

In my opinion, an underrated album, definitely better than the last two releases of the band.

I bought this album (in limited digipack edition) during a period of my life when I was looking for something strange to listen to. Thanks to this desire for exploration, I discovered bands like Orphaned Land, My Dying Bride, Elend, and others. Obviously, this band is definitely inferior to those mentioned, and their constant search for "something new" has led them to create disjointed works that go nowhere, providing a sense of the artificial and unnatural. A band for three and no more.

I've always found them pretty boring on record, but live they crush it.

Damn, how many dragon and goblin lovers (with swords drawn against the dark wizard casting lightning and various bullshit) are still around. It's groups like these that make metalheads look like a joke in the civilized world. I can understand Helloween (whom I adore), I can understand Virgin Steele (for historical and research reasons), but not bands like Rhapsody and their medieval gang.
