Rock has managed to be high and low. Sure, punk wasn't influenced by Mozart, but in my opinion, it's also thanks to people like Zappa that rock became Rock—an art form, a way of expressing oneself—and was "ennobled" as culture. Thanks to him, we can now insult Paris Hilton and Britney Spears with a clear conscience, knowing that what they offer is trash and that Built to Spill is art (just to name one). For me, Frank Zappa is rock (not solely), just as from a completely different perspective, "Hosianna Mantra" and "In den Garten Pharaos" by Popol Vuh are rock too.

thanks psycho..lorca? well, the comparison is tough to sustain but I would say no because lorca was in the phase of "dissolution," the beginning of the end (not artistic but earthly) of buckley, a bit delirious, the pre-starsailor phase in which introspection was "drugged" if I can summarize it in a few words.. well then tim was already in space.. if anything, staying within the daring parallel, I would find some correspondence with Happy Sad, which also has long compositions (love from room.. and gipsy woman and buzzin fly etc..) while still maintaining the proportions, let that be crystal clear....
