...and going back to Zappa, I may not have explained myself well, but I do not consider Zappa at all a pompous intellectual because, in many moments (perhaps always?), he may not even think too much about what he does (unlike contemporary classics, for instance, who just think and that's it...). Rather, the beautiful thing, in my opinion, is precisely this: by acting spontaneously, as was originally said, as a freak, he creates that bubbling cauldron of high-low refined kitsch, entertaining and immediate, so unique, reaching results that can (later) lead to the reflections that have, for example, been made on this page...

Fusillo, look, I never meant to compare Zappa to Keaton, but putting Zappa aside, you can’t tell me that behind The Cameraman (Io e la scimmia) in Italian, there isn’t a subtle, profound "discourse" on reality. In my opinion, that film has significant differences compared to the mechanical gags you referenced in The General. I mean, aside from the memorable minutes of the war between the Chinese (I believe), the film isn’t just a mad succession of comedic situations (like almost everything in Sherlock Jr., for example); rather, it is permeated by an irony that I would dare to define as philosophical when it "plays" with the various "levels" in which reality can be perceived. And from my very profane point of view, that is where the difference lies with Chaplin, who is socially, lyrically, and pathetically engaged.

Well, the perspective of satire and parody is necessarily detached for me.. those who do satire, those who are comedians analyze, reflect, critique, observe.. I always think of Buster Keaton's impassive gaze in the face of everything that happened around him.. I mentioned meta music because I perceive Zappa as an educated and refined "intellectual" American musician who, behind his cauldron of styles, has always carried on a certain "critical" discourse (which doesn't necessarily mean negative critique, but as I said, observer, etc. etc..) on the entirety of American music and beyond..

but yes in the end it’s all about points of view.. what I meant to say is that the other one you mention I consider all Rock since I see rock as anything different from classical but still art.. of course Zappa was a genius and that’s all that matters and that’s universally agreed upon thank goodness..

...for me, however, the necessity is important beyond the fact that what is of enormous quality remains so regardless of its label; still, I personally feel the need to distinguish between popular and classical and within popular between art and entertainment... I conclude the essay by suggesting for Zappa a suffix from the critic's jargon that I hold very dear... "meta-rock"...
