Ah well, we all got there. It’s certainly not just background music, but the progressive done right, I mean.

my friend here with me is all ears, the poor thing is shy and not having internet doesn't want to register, but I assure you she is also curious to know. you know she plays piano and guitar and also a bit of clarinet and knows a little about music. she tells me that here, even though with different points of view and maybe in clumsy, incomplete or inaccurate ways, we have all said the right things. so let's wait, but don't go copying from scaruffi, okay! :-)]

and punk didn't sweep anything away, prog had already been dead for a while, having committed suicide.

I agree oleeinar, in my review of Camel, I recommend Mirage to those who are starting to get into prog, also because of the guitar presence which many people enjoy, like me after all :-)

uhm .....I thought you were older, sorry. No, Lark's doesn't resemble Red, but let's say that at times they are related; Larks is more experimental, with the percussion for example, there was still Jamie Muir doing experiments and then there was still David Cross and his violin. No, Red is different even though the imprint of His Majesty Fripp is unmistakable.

oleinar, it’s not that I hate all Italian prog, let’s say I appreciate some stuff from Banco, PFM, Osanna, Goblin; the first ones I don’t know well because they’ve made a lot of albums. I also like the "Concerto Grosso" by New Trolls. Acqua Fragile is nice but they are clones of Genesis. I like Blocco Mentale too and others that I can’t remember right now, but if I said they drive me crazy, I’d be lying. I tend to prefer foreign music, with some exceptions, like singer-songwriters or bands like CCCP, CSI, or the early Litfiba.
Of course, I think like you, Yes are the quintessence of prog in the purest sense of the term, I had already said that before. I also grew up with Gabriel's Genesis, progressively speaking; I loved them and still love them, but I recognize there’s better out there, I’m being objective. I don’t even have a favorite band anymore, let’s just say I have bands to which I’m emotionally attached.
King Crimson should be listened to with caution. Think about it, the first time I listened to "Lark's Tongue in Aspic," I wasn’t convinced. Now for me it’s one of their masterpieces. Bonne is lucky; he’s very young in the internet age and therefore more informed and educated than we were at his age. :-)

Among other things, I recently dug up some gems like the Doors and even Deep Purple. It's nice to hear certain beautiful things again after a long break; you appreciate them with pleasure. :-)
