I wasn't talking about the fathers of science fiction, I was referring to directors who, at a certain point, with their works, elevated science fiction to a higher level in the general consideration of critics, experts, etc. etc.

At the time, underground, Siegel and Corman's films were considered B-movies, regardless of their actual quality. This was true for thrillers and horror, even though there were directors like Lang and Browning. At least, that's how it seems to me.

Well, yes Occulto, if you mention Metropolis that's another matter. I’m talking about science fiction and lighter, less avant-garde content. Metropolis is a masterpiece that goes beyond science fiction.

I was wrong, this is from '77, not '78. Anyway, this is one of those cases where I would have used the original title, which is Close Encounters of the Third Kind; the Italian title is terrible.

this film is the antithesis of the other sci-fi cult that will come a year later, in '79, namely Alien by Scott. Two great sci-fi films nonetheless, two masterpieces in their genre, which had always been considered minor, but also thanks to Spielberg and Scott, not just Kubrick and Tarkovsky, it has risen to a, let's say, higher level.
