Gentle Giant Acquiring the taste
Voto:
Good review. A bit short, perhaps, considering the depth, complexity, and beauty of this masterpiece. I also disagree when you write that "There are no technical complications and a taste for the baroque here"... On the contrary, in some cases, the arrangements are characterized by contrapuntal technicalities that are entirely baroque, not to mention the instrumental interweavings of the melodic interludes, which are very complex and practically present in almost all the tracks. What an album, by Jupiter!

What a bummer, I was planning to review this album or the latest one from Burzum and you snatched both from me, plus you wrote two great pieces! Grrr...

Magnificent review. I had jotted down some notes to write one myself, but in practice, you've already articulated most of the ideas I intended to develop, with care and great style. Well, maybe I'll publish it nonetheless; the fact is that, in my opinion, you've truly given excellent literary form to the difficult feelings that an album like this evokes in the listener's soul, and you have also adeptly addressed the issue of composition with awareness. The composition, while not as impeccable as that of other artists in the electronic field, is still of great interest. You also said it well at the end: few enlightened "metalheads"... Great album, fantastic band.

Hello,
I agree with the positive and negative observations made regarding the review. I love Enslaved (I have also reviewed Yggdrasill on these same [d]e-pages...) from the "first" and "second" periods (but not so much the "transition" albums) and I must admit I am quite curious to hear this latest record. Just thinking, I wonder how the reviewer managed to listen to the album 9 days before its official release, and therefore more than a dozen days before it was available in stores (after all, I still haven’t been able to find it). Well, miracles of piracy, I suppose.

More than a review, this is a general comment on Opeth, and thus I rate this, not the review. In any case, I agree with your analysis, unfortunately.
