Lucio Battisti La sposa occidentale

Well, talking at length about the styles and choices of an artist results in a rather sterile discussion. We mere mortals can discuss history and taste when it comes to music (I don't mean personal tastes; I mean the evolution of the taste of the masses and the elites). The rest is too personal, probably even Battisti didn’t have it clearly in mind.

Yello and Orb didn't meet the tastes of the masses? Yello's "The Race" even made it to Festivalbar, and Orb's "Blue Room" was on "Top of the Pops." I don't want to sound condescending, but I think you might be a bit mistaken. Or rather, The Orb with U.F. Orb certainly sold more than Battisti with "L'apparenza." (NB: Of course, they were also selling outside of Italy...)

Well, you know, vainly.. I listened to "L'apparenza" after having enjoyed "Don Giovanni," "Cosa succederà alla ragazza," and "La sposa occidentale." In my opinion, it's the least successful record of the pannelliana era, an album that has all the elements of the other white albums but fails to focus them well. Maybe I was too harsh calling it "ugliness"… but who cares :P Ah, I'm Simone Caronno. I don't know why this review was published under my pseudonym... BAh.

Sure, I agree. Innovative Kid A, no, new yes. At least when talking "generally" about the world of music understood in the broadest sense.
Narrowing the discussion to Pop, well, Radiohead have been innovative just as John Lennon was after taking "lessons" from the aforementioned Stockhausen.
Is Bjòrk's Vespertine innovative? No, not in general. However, it is if taken in the right context. Those who listen to pop have no idea what glitch is, what abstract hip hop is, or what IDM is because they don't want to engage deeply with the listening experience.
Bjòrk, like Radiohead, make today’s avant-gardes more "palatable" for popular audiences. Not innovative in general, but innovative for mainstream pop. :) cheers

But all the developments in the art world are "derivative," as you say. The RH simply understood that certain new expressive forms were mature enough to be used in song arrangements.
It wouldn't seem fair otherwise to talk about Peter Gabriel - 4 as a great album, citing the electronic works in the arrangement parts, when at the time of Gabriel there were already pioneers in timbral/ethnic research (Stimmung - K. Stockhausen is based on the chants of South Siberian populations, for example. 1960).
In the same way, Kid A draws from some explorations by artists from Warp Records. This is obvious. But you and I only criticize it because we discovered Autechre before Kid A.
Had we listened to certain exploratory music in 1960, Gabriel's 4 would have definitely appeared less "innovative."

But Thom Yorke also made it clear upon the album's release: LP5 was one of the fundamental listens for the writing of Kid A.... I don't see anything wrong with that: nothing is created, nothing is destroyed.

Great Autechre, even if this isn't my favorite album (Tri repetae ++ with the EPs Garbage and Anvil Vapre on the second CD is much better in my opinion), still the best among the pioneers of the IDM genre. Basscadet is epic in any case. In the review, you might have done a little historical flashback on early '90s England, on the record store that later became Warp Records, talk about Skam... But all in all, those who are interested can find such info online, right?

Well, it's not that Oval are the group that exudes the most "warmth" on the face of the earth. Let's say I find them "interesting" in terms of exploring new expressive avenues. However, this album managed to give me something on an emotional level as well. That's why I gave it a 5.

Thank you kosmogabri :) But don't say it too loud or I'll get a big head :D I want to subscribe to "The Wire" too, anyway, as I already said, they may have their noses in the air, but they often get it right :)
