Franz Ferdinand Tonight
Voto:
Regarding the Franz Ferdinand issue, intellectual or not: "Margarita love and destroy" (a quote from Bulgakov, it's the chorus of one of their b-sides), "You don't know the pseudonyms I assume, for you" (Bite Hard), "You're not Ulysses" (Ulysses, Joyce), and many others. Kapranos studied theology. As for the album, the experiments taken to the extreme rarely yield profitable results: the outcome often produces a veil of coldness and entails a loss of immediacy, as in the case of Tonight, which features hits that lack the striking originality of those from previous albums. Overall, it is an album with a homogeneous quality. The strengths are unequivocally the lyrics and, for those who can appreciate it, the club-addicted attitude that has been overly discussed. I'm a passionate fan of theirs, but this album is starting to tire me. The solidity is there, but the qualities for it to be lasting are definitely not. I'm not talking about disappointment, because it remains an inconceivable work for most bands in the indie scene; rather, I speak of sadness at finding my favorite band totally transformed. The review somewhat reflects the thoughts of all those read around regarding this matter, still good, in the sense that it conveys what to expect.

they have become a parody of themselves (see the video that mocks U2)... 6 immature fools!! The review provides a complete and effective analysis...
Kaiser Chiefs Yours Truly, Angry Mob

stratospheric disappointment: only 4 valid songs (Ruby, The Angry Mob, Everything is Average[..], Retirement)... the rest is junk that says nothing... We understood that KC are a band with a couple of mega hits and nothing more.. they showed promise when in the first album they plagiarized the greats, and they can keep on plagiarizing as long as they come up with something good..

Tell Jared to get back to acting! For that matter, he's also the bleached blonde disfigured by Norton in Fight Club!! Now that's a movie...

It's an album not to be underestimated... the credit goes almost entirely to Timbaland! These songs are more beautiful than the last and can finally "embrace a wider audience"! Listen to My Love or SexyBack or Losing my way and see for yourself if they can be taken so lightly! And Pitchfork is a great guide (except for a few albums that are too underrated)!
The White Stripes Icky Thump

The White Stripes (or rather, Jack) must not detach themselves from psychedelic blues, otherwise they are screwed! This album is another proof of a level above the average... untainted and infernal rock & roll! The best tracks are Icky Thump (those bagpipes are killer!), You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told), and I'm Slowly Turning Into You; the rest, if taken individually, would be appreciated more, but the overall experience remains excellent...
Stanley Kubrick Arancia Meccanica

Sacrilege! I can afford to comment since I've seen both The Deer Hunter, most of Lynch's films, and almost all of Kubrick's films! The Deer Hunter and FMJ cannot be compared: they are completely different things! The former is dramatic, the latter almost parodic: both are masterpieces! You cannot belittle a work like AM when you're dealing with a film (just look at the original trailer) that is political, shocking, disturbing, visionary, surreal, science fiction, violent, macabre, sarcastic, ironic, elegant, overflowing with illustrious scenes and astounding cinematic techniques. Not to forget the soundtrack! There is everything and yet it doesn't resemble a big mishmash: it's the unity of a result that made history!

Come on! They're not that bad! At least I'm among the few who make decent music in this damn pop scene! I Don't Feel Like Dancin' is fabulous! However, it annoys me that it's so well-known... The SS "back in the day" with Take Your Mama weren't known by anyone (or by very few) outside of England...
