Nihilism in a general sense is the attitude or doctrine aimed at definitively and radically denying the existence of any value in itself and the existence of any objective truth, resulting in a devaluation of reality itself. Cobain was a nihilist, okay, but there are 5 different types of nihilism: incomplete nihilism (destroying old values, but still thinking about new ones in a faith-based and metaphysical way), complete nihilism (of a passive nature, i.e., weakness, limiting oneself to acknowledging decadence and wallowing in nothingness, and of an active nature, i.e., strength, violent and destructive); extreme nihilism (destroys every remaining belief in truth); ecstatic nihilism (creates space for new possibilities), and lastly, classical nihilism (one moves from a destructive moment to a constructive one, giving meaning to the senseless occurrences of the world). So it's not that simple when labeling grunge or the person Cobain; let's not delve into dangerous territory, as it’s better that way.

maybe it's because you're not using the right drugs, the drugs you're using right now for example. Fidia, go to Scaruffi's review on Alice and see what he says about "Man in the Box," then we can talk about it again.

Have you ever heard "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains?? They sound like Guns N' Roses, same riffs, same timings, classic hard rock style, not alternative at all... and there are other songs of theirs built on these tones too.

You're not even grunge since you're wearing a t-shirt and not corduroy and flannel.

In fact, the grunge scene was a masked alternative scene, there was very little alternative about it; the early Jane's Addiction were alternative, but what fans refuse to admit is that almost the entire grunge scene and Sub Pop were producing AOR stuff.

Many tracks are AOR, that's a fact. If you're so fanatical about a band that you turn a blind eye, that's another story. Ten is a great mainstream rock album; whether it leans more towards punk, hard rock, or is a mix or grunge is secondary. Gossard and Ament were not alternative even in the '80s with Mother Love Bone, which was a pretty canonical glam hard rock-oriented group.

Holy shit, there are still people who, reading Scaruffi, get fixated and start spouting nonsense like him. For example, now Alive would be an AOR ride, but where? Come on, let’s cut it out, goddammit!

actually, it's the easiest album by this band (I mean up until no code, after which they faded away), I would say 60% hard rock between classic 70s and a grunge (or punk if you prefer) intensity, they weren't as raw as Mudhoney but some tracks are timeless, even if at times they veer into AOR.

I've never understood the association of Burroughs with the Beat Generation; he went beyond that label, and was more akin to people like Ballard than to Kerouac.
