Why did you mention "We Can't Dance"? It's not a bad work; many things on that album succeeded, like "Fading Lights," "No Son Of Mine," and above all "Driving The Last Spike." It’s the best Pop-rock album by Genesis, light-years away from the shallow, lackluster efforts of "Invisible Touch."

Ugly album, it doesn't excite me at all, I don't save anything, it’s all too technological and confusing, and it's no longer prog but a form of mutant pop-rock without soul. It’s worth as much as "Invisible Touch" by Genesis in my opinion, which is nothing.

The "frenetic rhythm" of "Watcher Of The Skies" is indeed Foxtrot.

I am in favor of the turning point, but I do not approve of the characteristics it has taken on.

So I also love albums like "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot," but anyone who has read a little about the history of this band knows that they never made a dime until 1976. The Genesis had a following, but they weren't earning money like some of their peers; whatever they made from sales went entirely to cover concert and production expenses. On their side, they were fortunate to have very wealthy families supporting them, which allowed them to continue making music. So I don't condemn their choice to make pop to earn more; it was fair enough, and all the money they made, they truly deserved.

But it moves towards a substantial pop change already expressed with "Songs For All Seasons"; I don't know "Novella," but this work is nice.

The Genesis are now disbanded, even though the official news was never announced; some time ago, rumors circulated about a reunion of the original lineup active from 1970 to 1975, which turned out to be a huge hoax. The band currently seems to have no intention of getting back together, but never say never; anything is possible. As for Collins, he’d better not do anything else; he’s dragged on long enough with his stuff.

It's not just a Collins' copla; Tony played a crucial role in the stylistic shift, which only takes on typically commercial traits later on. In this album, they "play," and there are decent songs (DODO), powerful ones (Abacab), and beautiful ones (Me And Sarah Jane), but for the rest, there's not much to do.

What a difficult album, I need to listen to it many more times, I just got it, I can't judge it at the moment, it requires multiple listens. The critics are tearing it apart, perhaps because they've never really listened to it, who knows.

I join the discussion. Well, Alice has done great things even without Battiato behind her; after 1985, the increasing detachment from the show business has characterized her production, and her choice of difficult and less commercial music (which is not the case with Battiato) has led her to have strained relationships with record labels. Just think that her catalog post-1989 is still not available on CD. And then, what is Alice remembered for? "Per Elisa," "Il Vento Caldo Dell'Estate?" Well, these are the songs that everyone hums along to, but her discography is much richer, and a large part of the most well-known songs are hers, later passed on to Pio and Battiato, but primarily hers.
