Giving 99% of his salary to the children of Africa? (besides the fact that he already donates a ton of money) And even if he did... what would change? Those thousand children would eat... and the rest of the continent?

Doctor, Bono's speech is more nuanced... He doesn't talk about charity... because it wouldn't help at all... his commitment is more political. We need to ensure that the West assists that continent, first and foremost by eliminating debt and avoiding and prohibiting some unscrupulous policies of many multinationals. He has never asked a penny from people while he sips a beer in a gold-plated villa. His message is also about "mobilizing consciences" on the part of the West. I don't see any inconsistency in the fact that he is wealthy. Moreover, there’s a difference between someone like Bono saying all this and a mortal being like you or me. So it’s a plus that he has billions and engages in acts of "charity." Not to mention that a person like him, who has everything, why would he waste his time and commit to this campaign, organizing events and speaking with all the heads of state in the world? For publicity? And do you think he needs it? He started this commitment seriously when he was already extremely rich and certainly didn’t need publicity. I’m talking about active commitment. And finally, let's say he does it for publicity or other purposes; in the end, what matters is the result, that is, that he does it. We need to stop considering billionaires, because they have money pouring out of them, that their commitment is always and necessarily fake. If they didn’t do it, who would? They are icons and followed by thousands of fans; who else would shake consciences? You? Me? And also, to be coherent, what should they do?

Guys, I didn't mean to say they were unknown or, even worse, poor... I meant to say they were far away from the global success they would have shortly after... maybe they didn't even believe it themselves. That's all... That was the first true moment when U2 set out on the path of "interplanetarity," beyond tastes and whether it's "right or wrong."

I'm sorry, but I didn't exaggerate... I said that U2's albums had good commercial success... but they were still a niche band. It's not true that their singles reached number 1 in the U.K.; the first single to enter the top ten in the U.K. at number 10 was "New Year's Day" from the album WAR (which is their third album) that went on to sell an excellent number of copies (currently at 7.5 million).

Beautiful album. Well-written review, but I disagree with the "masterpiece" theme. For me, Joshua Tree is a true masterpiece, one of the most beautiful albums of the last 20 years.
