Lucio Battisti La sposa occidentale

Ah, of course: a courageous choice, I agree. But what else could an artist who chose isolation like Battisti (note: and with Battisti's character...) have done, if not decide to set to music the seemingly abstruse poetic diversions of Panella? To say that he made a courageous choice is obvious: it’s to say he made a market choice and, all in all, it seems to me that this overshadows the Battisti-artist, who I believe was an outlier with respect to the market laws, to what had been his image and to the vast mass of the audience. He had the only sacred desire to express himself as an artist and he did so in the way and with the means that allowed him, trying to compromise as little as possible with the national-popular music world of which he had been an icon for a long time. (I quote this phrase of his: “I realized that being hermetic creates fewer problems, while speaking a simple language exposes you to greater possibilities of being judged. The more people understand you, the more potential judges you have of what you do.”) The choice of the "enigmatic" virtuosities in Panella’s verses is the perfect rhyme to Battisti's choice to isolate himself in his sound universe far from the limelight.

The magic mushroom is a wonder: almost at once it signed up, quickly became friendly in the chat, sent a review immediately, opened a very useful forum... What more do you want? It even makes amends above regarding the outcome of its review! I have no doubts: it deserves applause! :) (clap, clap, clap, clap...)

I absolutely have to get my hands on "Don Giovanni." While I can say that I've literally worn out the vinyl of "La sposa occidentale" (except for that of "C.S.A.R."). I've always wondered how Battisti experienced the partnership with Panella, which I believe is quite different from the collaboration with Mogol. Once, I think I read that our national Lucio declared that he barely understood the lyrics by Panella and simply focused on setting them to music and singing them.

I completely agree with humax on "Dirty," which I also love very much; it's one of the most "communicative" and "colloquial" of the group. Absolutely worth mentioning (or should I take on the challenge of a difficult review? Mmmhhh...)!
