It's pointless to wonder why on earth he turned to electronics: questioning the value and necessity of a work as a whole is limiting; it's reductive to evaluate the medium or expressive support. Keep forgetting the lyrics, and, in my opinion, an album is: lyrics + words. And then, why on earth exhaust ourselves asking: "why this way?" and "why not that way?" I believe Battisti was laughing his head off or getting bored reading what journalists were asking about the "turnaround" of the albums born from the collaboration with Panella. He simply turned to electronics. He experimented, he grew. Should he have spent his life strumming "Non è Francesca" and similar songs?
