For me, it still remains superior to just Human Touch.

Mediocre lyrics, even? Perhaps rhetorical, but true in the end. Then the arrangements, well, they don’t sound too different from other eighties albums that, luckily for them, didn’t achieve all this success.

The comparison with the masterpieces of the past would objectively be unfair, but Magic is still a good album with truly high peaks at the end (Long Walk Home, Devil's Arcade, Last To Die, the ghost track Terry's Song, and the dark title track itself). The feeling of déjà-vu lingers for songs like Livin' In The Future and for certain Beach Boys-style solutions that might be unpalatable to the more hardline Springsteen fans, while the single, despite its banality, is perfect for the purpose that these singles usually serve. A note on the sound: given that O'Brien is not the right producer for Bruce and that listening to the mp3s was as misleading as always in these cases, I believe the work done is less intrusive than what was done on The Rising, but I certainly cannot regard the sound in entirely positive terms. A 4, not full.

Sorry chatnoir, I hope what you just wrote isn’t about me. I only reviewed these Bob albums that were missing, and in fact, I tried to preserve some aspects.

Rivoli, listen, do not infest the reviews that do not interest you.
