Chan Marshall is truly a nice person... from an interview: despite almost immediate acclaim for Chan's work she remained a reluctant, conflicted performer and, after suffering a breakdown, removed herself to South Carolina to recover. She doesn't like the meal that has been made of this in the press so far. "Because there's nothing sensational in what I do they're trying to just make something sensational out of the breakdown. And it's absolutely to do with being a woman. I guess that's why they love Courtney Love so much, because she's always rockin'. Anybody who the masculine world doesn't think is as strong as them, they define by weakness or their faults. But there's fear too, that they know they wouldn't recover if it happened to them."
