Swans The Beggar

Seen at the theater in Bologna on May 29: incredibly powerful sound volume and long, monolithically hypnotic, endless tracks. I believe they were all taken from the latest album (which I bought at the booth but haven’t listened to yet) because I didn’t recognize a single one, but I can say that in memory there remains a sense of monotony and indistinguishability, the same left by the latest post-Seer albums. Halfway through, I went outside for five minutes of fresh air. The show was very focused on the legendary character "Gira," who offstage seemed to me, all things considered, like a nice old man. Got a t-shirt that says: You Fucking People Make Me Sick, to wear on Monday at work.

I've had it there for years - discovered it right on DeB - but not in the edition you recommend (I have the Adelphi). Maybe I'll take it down from the shelf...
Marco Bellocchio Rapito
Voto:
I've never seen anything by Bellocchio (I think), and I really liked this one, even though it's veeeery traditional in direction. Two hours that flew by despite the heaviness of the subject and the staging. Some almost-grotesque moments of great impact. A lot of prayers in Latin and Hebrew.
The inquisitor reminded me of Gian Maria Volonté, both in appearance and acting. The question I ask myself is: is there a need for an anti-clerical atheist film in 2023? Isn't it a bit predictable?
Beasts of Bourbon Still Here
Voto:
I don't want to be a party pooper, but the cover says it all... it's a generic rock album of generic rock. So far from the grit, off-key moments, and drunkenness of their early days, here we have a production that's too polished. My Shit's Fucked Up exists only because the original is a great track (but Zevon made it interesting with the contrast of dark humor and a bare acoustic piece). There's one that's identical to Tom Waits (if I'm not mistaken, "At the Hospital") and another that's the Rolling Stones ("Drunk on a Train") but Waits and the Stones were rawer, more Beasts of Bourbon. I had listened to Little Animals on repeat, but here... who knows.

Thomas Ligotti Nottuario
Voto:
For those who don't know what weird fiction is: Ligotti himself provides a definition in the introduction to Nottuario. (I believe you can read it in its entirety in the preview without needing to purchase the book).

Invaluable is the introduction, and already the first story Medusa kills the soul of anyone who reads it (or rather: frees one from the illusion of having one).
Thomas Ligotti La cospirazione contro la razza umana
Voto:
This is a shocking text, one that has disturbed me and continues to disturb me (just like its stories). You may not agree, and at times it’s a bit cumbersome and illogical, but it definitely plants a seed of doubt in you, damn it. The edition by Saggatore is nice to look at but very expensive, and it has a clumsy translation.

Just a recap to say that I read it and I thank G because I did well to read it.
