Neurosis An Undying Love For A Burning World

Ah.
I didn't know about this comeback. I thought they had died off after Scott Kelly's departure. All the better. SUMAC, whom I respect, were unlistenable to me. I wish I had a beard like Steve Von Till.

Update. I’ve listened to it a bit this month and here’s where I’d place it: it’s definitely better than I feared (a mediocre, somewhat dull return), but much worse than I unrealistically hoped (a new paradigm of thrash?). The record rocks, for sure, but for me it’s not a miracle—it’s just a really good, straightforward Coroner album with updated production (and a few samples of synthesized voice that I’d erase from the face of the earth). I enjoy listening to it and it can easily be played on repeat, but putting on No More Color again blew me away.

I can't stand them, super-melodic with that "core" voice and the modern post-rock-style production: it's a combination that I find really hard to stomach. (Unlike Alcest – adorable). But I understand that these are albums you really have to get into and let yourself be carried away by the emotions. post-rock:

Another great record, just a heads up that the highly anticipated LP reissue for the German Darkness Shall Rise should be released today. I’ve been waiting for it.

Every time I put it on, I end up listening to The Mercy Seat on repeat. Still, 5 stars—here we're basically in legend territory.

In my opinion, this is an amazing record. By the way, I just discovered it these days because Debemur Morti has just reissued their latest black metal single The End of the World (1997).

Thanks to the flu, this morning—on the day of the album’s release—I listened to it twice: I liked it, but it didn't blow me away (then again, with a fever...). I should say that I'm not a Coroner aficionado, in the sense that I only really know Mental Vortex and Grin (discovered back in 2006 right here on DeB thanks to a Bartleboom page), and that the two lead singles "Renewal" and "Symmetry" seemed rather generic to me—but within the context of the album they work. I would also place it right between those two albums. Meaning, it's a step back, not necessarily in a bad way, compared to Grin. It seems like a good (even great) record; for a more reasoned opinion I’d let it settle a bit. I do have two reservations: 1) as Asfodelo already said, I agree that you can feel a bit of mold 2) the full and powerful production—major label level—makes you miss that sharp roughness and so on... P.S. To the Celtic Frost - Coroner duo I would add Paysage d’Hiver / Darkspace. volte: riserve:

Where can it be listened to? Bandcamp and Tidal, perhaps rightly, often reject bands from the NS imaginary...

It has nothing to do with it, but the cover reminds me of The Work Which Transforms God Ingrandisci questa immagine
Savaging Vignettes of Cruelty and Callousness

I love the pages filled with band names. Besides these Savaging, who seem to be up my alley, I’ll also note down Chaos Moon and Nyktalgia. The post-black tendencies and the "more modern, polished, and harmonious superstructures" usually bore me.
