ashanti, Seattle does not overlook the Pacific Ocean, however, and it's different, Seattle is not even in California.

The Stone Temple Pilots were definitely grunge, with Weiland's raspy voice; Vedder was too baritonal to be as rough as they were. Even Neil Young from those years was more grunge than Vedder (just look at the Live Weld with Neil Young: ripped jeans, a scruffy vibe, disheveled hair), and that says it all about Vedder's desire to be part of that status symbol.

Jane's Addiction did not play classic hard rock; they did crossover, elements of funk, tribal psychedelia, hard, metal. I believe they were not AOR, but to say that Alice in Chains are AOR means to lack a sense of proportion. Where the hell are they AOR?? The three-legged dog?? Try sending that record on the radio, nonsense is not spared, or try sending "Sickman"....

All hard rock is easy to grasp; it's truly a characteristic of the hard rock genre, from the '70s to the present day. If you want something more elaborate, then you're not playing classic hard rock. "Alive" is a perfect hard rock song; being perfect (with catchy hooks and a cathartic instrumental outro) doesn't mean making old music for old listeners.

Pearl Jam are adult oriented rock from Yield onwards, but not before, otherwise the whole grunge scene would be AOR, Alice in Chains would be AOR and even Sonic Youth's Dirty would be AOR, it doesn’t hold up.
