At this point, I also respond to JDV666 by saying that THE GATHERING is an excellent band since the enchanting (in every sense) ANNEKE stepped in as the vocalist! To put it very briefly, they have produced outstanding albums, MANDYLION & NIGHTTIME BIRDS on the gothic/doom side, then shifting towards more electro-spacey sounds with the subsequent HOW TO MEASURE A... & IF_THEN_ELSE, and finally embracing very light electronic sounds with SOUVENIRS (trip-hop) and HOME.... Then, the latest album with the new singer => the same concern I expressed earlier about Hollenthon applies: fear that I won't like it and will be disappointed.

for JDV666: I have the entire discography of TRAIL OF TEARS and "profoundemonium" was my first contact and love with the band; let’s go with the review... I'm waiting for you :-) as for HOLLENTHON, I own the first two but I still miss this latest one and I've always refused to listen to it properly because I'm afraid of a bitter disappointment. I only passively heard a couple of tracks (back when the album was released) and they didn't leave a great impression on me.

Unfortunately, I didn't find much benefit from those qualities described in the review; rather, they left me quite cold and indifferent in many parts... The piece highlighted by the reviewer is certainly nice; however, I believe that the eighth piece, "a star-guarded coronation," is much more heartfelt and enchanting.

I really only like ETERNAL and REIGN OF LIGHT from this band. For those looking for a Swiss group not much different from Samael, I recommend trying ALASTIS and listening to the albums "revenge" and "unity."
