Wilson Volgarmente detto Amico Wilson

I instead think it's the good old (and true) wreck, who in a moment of emotional/human/inspirational need, has returned to that welcoming cradle that debaser was for many of us (ex?) time-wasters about ten years ago (merdra!)
John Fante Full Of Life
Voto:
If you didn't like it, it's fair to give it a low rating; it's much more sincere than blindly idolizing the big names. Every great writer has made missteps or written books that are not as good as others: I haven't read this one and it could be average or even below average, why not? But Fante, with his robust, tragicomic, and passionate writing style, "created" many of the great American writers who would come after him. Aside from his importance, aside from the fact that it's Fante, if you have time, try something else of his: definitely "Ask the Dust," which is perfect in its own way, but also something delightful (and late) like "West of Rome," and especially his masterpiece in my opinion: "The Brotherhood of the Grape."
J.B. Ballard Vento dal nulla
Voto:
I have never read this, and it belongs to Ballard's early works, those "science fiction" pieces from the sixties; some were interesting (Waterworld or something like that wasn’t bad). Then came, between the late sixties and early seventies, what I consider his masterpieces: above all "The Atrocity Exhibition," a kind of long dreamlike urban journey composed of variations on the same story through a fragmentary and visionary narrative (I know, Ghezzi does a rich job of hand from a villain...), but also "Crash," "Condominium," "Concrete Island," etc.... That said, that said, that said more or less everything, great mention and great page, as always!

Always beautiful are those three minutes and twenty-eight seconds that your reviews gift us (give or take Earth time).

"Wow, how fit you were today. Wow, how you dealt with that guy. When he tossed that lateral pass to you and you got there and nearly fell and chipped it over, Pemulis said the guy was about to throw up on the net, that's what he said." (D.F. Wallace)

"Drink Scotch whisky all night long / And die behind the wheel"... A disco gem!
Nick Waterhouse Time's All Gone

Yes, yes, very lengthy, but I finished it all, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've had the chance to read on debaser in years. Congratulations!
Francis Scott Fitzgerald Il grande Gatsby

In my opinion, the definition given in an essay once about Fitzgerald's writing style in this book was perfect: "dreamlike prose"...Wonderful book.
Woody Allen To Rome With Love
Voto:
A negligible film that portrays Italy as if it's still the 1950s (what outfits did they make the women in the film wear? They look like Sophia Loren in L’Oro di Napoli). Ridiculous plot, a few lines that are worth saving, and poor ideas. The only thing is that Allen has returned to "acting" here, too bad that there’s no longer the voice of Oreste Lionello, but rather that of Leo Gullotta. Perhaps it's a sign. Anyway, the traffic cop found him there in Piazza Venezia and suggested shooting; I work nearby and saw the scene. Allen took a van and circled the square to film it. Perhaps the cop is the only "neorealist" character in the film :) Now the question is: which European city will Woody ruin next???

Watershed is the right word...four years later THE ALBUM would be released, but that's another story...I've always liked windsurfing, where it says you eat an apple...
