Critics do not have to give up their umbrellas when they go to an art-exhibition. The umbrellas do, however, have to take an examination. Only umbrellas with holes are admitted to art criticism. The more holes, the more rain. The more rain, the greater pain, the greater pain, the more criticism. To return to sheep: critics are a special kind of human being. To be a critic one has to be born to it. Critics are sheepborn, sheepsuckled by schoolmarm and half-sheep when faced with a work of art. The difference between artist and critic is this: the artist creates, the critic bleates.
