Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Do you see, Devon? Those who seek shall find! But by any chance... are you the one who had a verbal spat with Babbano in a forum that I can't recall now? (I'm asking just for the sake of it, your n.name isn't new to me)

But think about it... Dream Theater is one of the many bands that have ever existed on the face of the earth. You treat them as if we were talking about the worst band ever created. All that’s missing is you comparing them to the Lostprophets! (for me, one of the most useless bands ever made; I mention them because they’re the first piece of crap that comes to mind, but seriously, crap, okay?). For me, a band that writes "Images and Words," "Awake," and "Scenes from a Memory" cannot be hated like this. If they weren't so famous and hadn't had the success they've had, you wouldn't be so harsh on them. I’m 21 years old, I’m not a fanatic, yet I like Dream Theater. On "Falling Into Infinity," which you despise, there’s an instrumental called "Hell's Kitchen"... do you know it? At least that one has to please you; if you’re honest, come on... listen to it and forget that you’re listening to Dream Theater for a moment, so you’ll be less bloodthirsty in your judgment! OUT OF 120 SONGS THEY’VE MADE, IS THERE ONE, I SAY ONE, THAT YOU LIKE?! DAMN, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DREAM THEATER, NOT THE PET SHOP BOYS! It’s mathematically impossible that they’re as bad as you say; they must have produced at least 1% of good music, right? Or are we all crazy here (including me for listening to them)?

PS: Has anyone ever noticed that Labrie's voice is incredibly similar to Kotipelto's from Stratovarius?

Despite their repetitive nature, each album is different from the other, both stylistically and production-wise. With Octavarium, however, they have pushed it too far. The early Dream Theater gave a hard time to anyone; they blended not genres but different forms of music. They elevated what, in the hands of other bands, would have been trivial music. Nonetheless, fourteen-year-olds don’t listen to Dream Theater, but rather to Green Day, Blink, and Good Charlotte. Let’s not get it twisted. At concerts, there are also fifty-year-olds going to see the 5 "sboroni."

no easy, I will never understand your aversion to Dream. You say they serve us things we've already heard, but who doesn’t? Music is infinite, but the forms in which it can be channeled and played are not. No one creates something completely new and original; even the most experimental band that could exist draws from the past. It’s obvious. Despite this, Dream definitely has their own style. And then get your act together: if they’re too technical, you don’t like them because they’re cold and self-serving, if they do "Through Her Eyes" they're commercial... stop shitting on Dream, damn it.

Mary, are you okay?

yes yes, I agree. Gardens of the sinner is an absolute masterpiece, and once you learn the chorus, it just sticks in your head! An underrated song, superior to most of the songs on Somewhere out in space, which is widely considered the masterpiece of Gomma Gay.

uhm...I can't download songs, this computer is acting up...anyway, "Surrounded" is a love song, "Another Day" is about two people who separate (maybe) due to death that divides them...but I've never really understood it! You should also try "THE SPIRIT CARRIES ON" and "THROUGH HER EYES" always by DREAM...you'll see what I mean...the first one is about life after death, the second...well, it's a long story!

this computer won't download the songs... anyway, more than cheerful, the Stratovarius are really quite gloomy... they dress in an exotic way, but sometimes, especially Kotipelto, I see him as quite glamorous. he has a voice though... anyway, if you really want to hear some true melodic death-doom, download something from Opeth, like Blackwater Park or Still Life, or Deliverance or Ghost Reveries... you'll see the difference with Stratovarius... P.S.: in death, the singer uses growls, which he can alternate with clean vocals, but NEVER just clean vocals, otherwise it's not death!
