For example, I love the first Red House Painters album, the best slowcore record in the galaxy, but starting from the second one, they don’t seem essential to me anymore (including the second). Same goes for Codeine: After Frigid Stars they seem really derivative and a bit baroque (which seems paradoxical, given the genre they play).

No, I won't be there unfortunately... I saw a video on YouTube of the live performance in Milan and thought of this review, also because right after they started with Guillotine as you say... Of course, We Suck is one of my favorites, it's a shame that one was completely forgotten!

Thank goodness the Melvins are pseudo-metallic :-D If they were true metalheads, you know how boring that would be... I didn't care for them at first, but then I learned to appreciate something like Stoner Witch and Houdini. They're not "genius," they often have muddled ideas, but they have five times the personality compared to some embarrassing metal bands out there. That said, I have the impression they've been releasing the same album for several years now...
