Some of the posts above are just hair-raising. I’ll just specify that anyone who knows me even a little on this site knows what I used to think about Queen. And, just to clarify, I didn’t give a 1 to “the Queen,” but to the work in question, which is objectively unpresentable, indisputably inferior to their early efforts. And after years of being on Deb, I’m certainly not here to preach on why A Kind of Magic isn't good rock. That should be well established. But anyone can give 5 to A Kind of Magic; what does it matter to me? What bothers me are the curt statements in comments 40-44 that accuse those who (legitimately) don’t appreciate it of ignorance. One cannot be both cuckolded and beaten, come on.

What a sadness some elements of the new generation of Deb: ignorance galore, mixed with arrogance. Someone who talks about the first two greatest hits of Queen as fundamental albums should just take up gardening, assuming the bugs welcome him. Moreover, even after all these years, there are still empty prejudices like "if the singer has a nice voice, then the band he sings for must be valid." Yes, because it takes a genius to understand that Mercury had developed such a tacky and ridiculous style here, fake macho and annoyingly theatrical, that it competes in awfulness with people like Europe... I repeat: what a sadness. But counting to ten before writing such nonsense, no?

DONNIE DARKO, giving this record a 5 means not having listened and not knowing a damn thing, but really a damn thing, about music, as well as showing a taste that falls somewhere between the grotesque and the gaudy. But if I stop to think for a moment, you're the one who looks at U2 with admiration and respect, so it all makes sense.
