I understand what you mean, Stockalper, but it's still a music work and should be evaluated as such. I believe that a poor piece remains musically poor even if accompanied by film images, because it stands on its own. And besides, Queen has shown that they continued to operate at this cheesy level in their other albums of the '80s, when there were no movies involved.

Well, it's almost impossible not to be moved in front of these fakes.

Percy, I've already told you that both Husker Du and Queen play rock, albeit with attitudes that are nothing short of opposite. In fact, for some time now, I've been pestering Deb by emphasizing how much I enjoy focusing on the approach and assessing that, in my own little way. The approach of these (I underline these) Queen is shameful, and I was wrong to bring Mould and company into it, I admit. It was a waste. Even The Joshua Tree by U2 is better than A Kind Of Magic.

I stand corrected: they indulge in self-satisfaction, though with some interesting moments! But they remain too anchored to their metal roots, with all the unpleasant consequences that entails.

De Andrè and Battisti are highly comparable; if we can't put them side by side, it seems difficult to even vaguely discuss music. Highly comparable doesn't mean they are identical, of course. @CEDROTALL, everything is fine, but personally, AKOM is terrible both compared to the '70s Queen and to what existed in the '80s in more or less mainstream circuits.

Very simple: both Husker Du and Queen play rock. But, between us, even the best albums by the Boss and U2 are better than A Kind Of Magic, and with that, I think I've made my point.

Lupin's response perfectly addresses Percy’s semi-provocation. And it's also absolutely not true that the VU are inferior to Mozart: they are two genres, philosophies, and approaches to music that are completely different. In popular music, the VU represent one of its peaks. And I find it hard to consider Mozart as "popular music." Rather, viewing "serious" music (?!?) as superior, by default, to popular music seems to me like an act of pure snobbery not supported by any valid justification. The example of the Nutella sandwich... I don't understand why one would resort to unlikely analogies and almost mock those who "unfortunately" know more, as if it were a sin to atone for... staying on the culinary theme, someone here is flipping the omelet.
