Mainstream albums of the genre in the current decade seem impossible... just to give an example of how interesting the '90s were. The review is the typical fan type that treats the work as if it were the best ever created on Earth.

I don't remember Alexander, what was I saying in particular about the Nin?? (Except that TDS is awesome, I mean) :-)

Guys, I don't know what you've been listening to in Rock, but we're having a discussion about one of the most insignificant works of the '80s (and not just that). Honestly, all this attention is undeserved. It's not about being a new Mozart, but about having the clearest possible vision of what was going on in the '80s. Well, anyone who has even a slight knowledge of the alternative scene from that era can't help but laugh at Princes of the Universe, Highlander or not, come on.

But my dear Percy, what are you talking about? Husker Du and Queen (I repeat) are rock, and as opposing as they are in vision, they deal with the same subject matter... you, on the other hand, throw in Kubrick and Nutella to justify, I don’t know exactly what. I prefer A Clockwork Orange because I love the violence as expressed and the oxymorons so dear to Kubrick, but that’s not the point. I can remove the Husker Du if you want, I’ll give you The Joshua Tree by U2 (I've told you already), so we’re at a mainstream level and you’re happy: well, even the work of U2 is superior to A Kind of Magic. You’re afraid to compare two rock albums, I’m not. I care relatively little about The Doors; I mentioned them because I saw your rating in your first comment on Deb: giving The Doors a 2 and then defending A Kind Of Magic seemed a sign of not great objectivity and intellectual honesty, that is, what you accused me of, that’s all.

Also because I saw that you gave a solid 2 to The Doors, and I assume that for A Kind Of Magic you can't give a score lower than 3... I don't know, maybe you would vote differently now, but come on, don't come to me talking about intellectual honesty and objectivity, come on come on.

Oh no, the provocative post was number 40 by D Darko, and I, who am certainly not a saint, didn't need to be asked twice to respond in kind. @Starblazer: for sure Freddie is keeping it to himself, he didn't give a damn about the "quality" of his pieces, especially since he found success. Percy Percy, who do you think you're fooling? :-) You know very well we weren't talking about films, so don't make improbable analogies, especially since it’s not worth it for A Kind of Magic. I understand you want to argue that "they're both valid albums, even if different," but I completely disagree.

Percy, you know why I asked you. Skeletron, you’ve misinterpreted my posts, don’t be like Berlusconi, I certainly didn’t start the issue; I merely responded to your posts punctually. Revisionism about what? What are you saying? Queen has been criticized for decades, since the time of the first "Queen," when they were considered a bad copy of Led Zeppelin (a criticism I don’t even agree with)... but come on. You don’t have to be Lester Bangs to be perplexed by A Kind Of Magic.

Percy, do you think A Kind Of Magic is better than the first Doors album?

Detractors usually have a few thousand more listens compared to the average Queen fan, which never hurts for gaining a truly more objective perspective on the matter.

A Kind Of Magic: perhaps the most "honest" of the bunch (what courage I have), is simply limited to being self-serving and useless; One Vision: arcade rock; Who Wants to Love Forever: tacky, theatrical, generic, pathetic... everything a piece shouldn’t be; Gimme the Prize and Princes of the Universe: stadium anthems, lowbrow and super gaudy, but oh so gaudy; Friends will be Friends: a sugary whining for children, etc. Know that I grew up with Queen and was a fan of theirs, but you can’t believe in Santa Claus your whole life. Moreover, if you deny the widespread tackiness of Queen, well, then I agree with you: the discussion can end here. I understand that when you’re a fan of someone, love makes you blind, but that’s not my problem. Povia’s dove? Also crap, no problem there.
